I met a fellow uker locally to me via the ukulele underground FB.
Just wondering if there are any other uke players around I'm thinking of starting up a ukulele club their seems to be NONE in NJ (as far as i can find).

These guys. I see at least two UU members in their photos.

And someone, perhaps that group, is hosting a uke weekend this month or next. Maybe it's past...someone will have that website, too. Wait here it is. What a great place to meet ukers that might live near you, iamesperambient!

My 10-year old nephew lives in central NJ and plays ukulele, but his early bedtime might interfere with any late night, drunken jams.

Hey there,

I'm the ukester in charge of Uke New Jersey Too! coming up on August 29-31 in Morristown for The Folk Project.

Details on the festival can be found here: http://www.folkproject.org/ukefest/ukefest.shtml

There a couple of Uke clubs in NJ including the Morristown Uke Jam http://www.meetup.com/MorristownUkeJam/#upcoming that holds weekly jams on the Green in Morristown and The Ukulele Club of New Jersey https://www.facebook.com/groups/NJUke/ that has pretty regular monthly get-togethers.

Tell your nephew's parents that at Uke New Jersey Too, children 12 and under are free (with a paid adult) and we have a strict no drugs/alcohol policy. There will absolutely be workshops appropriate for players of all ages and skill levels, and some of our teachers/performers have won awards for their work with kids/families.

If you have any questions about any of this stuff, feel free to call me at 908-229-1212.

Thanks,

Scooter

I was at a Michael Smith concert recently (Great song writer and guitarist http://michaelpetersmith.com/). He lives in the Chicago area but is originally from New Jersey.

He said that being a folk singer from New Jersey that if it had been written there the classic folk song would be "Hey Michael, What's With The Boat"

I'm a uker from south Jersey. I think there are several groups that get together in Jersey...primarily central area (for example what Fil mentioned). It seems like the extreme south and north are lacking. Not sure about the New Brunswick area. I'm throwin it out there that if there are any uke players near the Jersey shore, we should try to get together. I summer at the shore....south Jersey mostly BUT would be willing to travel to meet up now and then. Have fun!

i live in new brunswick have not found one single group or anything around here hoping to find something id love to jam with people who actually play uke and learn from one another. its fun jamming with guitarists but its just not the same in all honest. I'm also a guitarist so i just end up putting down the uke and playing boring guitar with my guitarist friends to mesh with their sound better. Kind of sucks. Shoot me a message anyone in central NJ who wants to jam whatever. thanks for the info everyone! its hopefully there some NJ uke players out there!
