Please watch the vid and/or consult the suggestions/requests below. There are several ways you can participate this week. If you have questions, please make up an answer and go forward to make awesome music videos!

Season 123
The Berni Show
“rules” I guess. Really, more like thoughts and requests

I. Covering a Berni Armstrong song is the first way to have a great time making music this season

Berni Armstrong’s You Tube Uploads (https://www.youtube.com/user/TheBerniArmstrong/videos?view=0&sort=dd&shelf_id=1) are mostly orignal songs he has written for the Seasons. He normally puts the lyrics in the You Tube Descriptions. First have a great time listening to some of his songs. You may want to read along with the lyrics to get a good feel for the tune, I often do. Then, and here’s your skill building bit if you don’t do this already, try playing along with him once you’ve chosen a song to cover. Learning to jam with a solid player like Berni will help your playing a great deal. You should be able to find a few chords to match up with a little effort. Another good thing about B is that he tends to show his hands in the videos and you’ll be able to get a little idea of the chords just by watching him.

II. The next way you can participate is by continuing with TCK’s brilliant idea of honoring you other fellow Seasonistas by covering the songs they’ve posted here over the years. I asked Dave when we signed up about joing our adjoining weeks to make a sort of season that didn’t have to end quite so quickly. We only discussed it once and then just briefly, BUT he’s made such a warm and awesome place for us to express our admiration and love for each other here that I can’t see letting that go right away. Keep spreading the joy and you’re in this season, too.

III. Finally, my initial thought for this season was to ask you to sing about your familes or a family member actual or adopted through love. If you think of someone as your Auntie, Brother, Mom, Significant Other, they count here. Heck that means I could write a song about one of you or cover one of the many folk ballads about family members like “Wily O’ Winsbury” or even a dirisive one like Lyle Lovett’s “She’s no Lady, She’s My Wife”. Keeping the love of family in sight would be nicer than those last two, though.

IV. So knock yourselves out.
Create something new for this week please. Retreads have other places to be.

Writing your own song is always encouraged. Remember, practicing writing is like practicing the uke, you can’t help but improve if you share in a mutually respectful community like this one.

Saying the season number or name is fine if you want to but if it’s here I’ll presume this season, this is why it’s here.

Don’t like any of these suggestions? Make the video you DO want to make and take it to the Island of Misfit Seasonistas. I love going there to see what people are enjoying playing especially if it’s newly created.

Multitrack or whatever if you want to.

Wear (or don’t wear) whatever you want.

Just bring us some beautiful and/or amazing songs. It’s ALL about the songs and the songwriters and the singers and the players.

V. Oh, and a personal favor, please? Regarding the above, may I point out that (and I’ve certainly been guilty of this) this isn’t a vlog but a music video. LONG intros are something I usually skip over to get to the music. If the song really requires some setup or there’s a brief statement about how much you love Berni or something like that please move it along or maybe put it in the text introducing your video. Likewise, splash screens before the videos don’t really need to be there for more than a couple of seconds if you use them. When I skip over them, I sometimes miss the first part of the song. Think of how you feel about commercials on television and you’ll get the idea. Thanks very much for this.

VI. We don’t have nearly as much problem with this as we used to but for gosh sakes Tune Up before you record (or go on stage, or play something for your family) the drill should be Pick up Uke, check for tuning issues (or if you’ve EVER been told you’re out of tune when you didn’t know you were, check with an electronic tuner every time, please) THEN play.

VII. Participants will be on the Sharpie Stab(™) list once. I think the prize may be a download of Berni’s new CD with his Blues band. There’s some great music there and I’ll get you a link to the site that you can use in case you don’t get Sharpied this time.

Love to each of you Brothers and Sisters and eternal thanks for allowing me to be among you and for sharing your talents with all of us.

Alan...Bless you, bless you, bless you!

I was planning on doing Berni's "In Search of Fire" for week 122 but I got a severe oral infection starting on Tuesday and can barely speak, let alone sing. It was looking like I was not going to be able to do anything but post a link to the original vid because my face is still pretty twisted out of shape and while Berni's songs are amazing, matching up to his playing style is tough at least for me!

So, now I can relax a little, as I have a whole week, and surely this second shot and round of stronger antibiotics has to start bringing this swelling down before then!

Ironically, I had to take three sick days this week and would have had "lots of time to record" ... if I'd just been able. :(

It's the Solstice and the longest day of the year. It's just now getting dark here at 12:40AM. I know it won't be midnight in Hawaii for another 20 minutes but I'm going to bed. So I'm breaking the rules. Here's my version of Berni's 1564. He wrote this one for J-peg's I V VIm IV week. I thought it was brilliant to combine the pattern with a song based on the year 1564. When the theme was announced this morning I knew this was the song I wanted to cover.

I'm glad you continued the theme Alan! There are others I'd like to pay a tribute to that I'm still trying to figure out how to so thanks for giving me time.

And pa! wow! thanks for covering my cover of krabbers. I love that song. It's message is so special! i'm glad i can hear someone sing it too! first thought that came to mind was how do you fingerpick an 8-string? I never had one so I don't know. i feel like my fingers will get caught up in all those strings :o

alright, off to get ready for a picnic and think about how i'm gonna berni's song and more seasonista tributes!

Have a great sunday everyone in the US and week to the others!

I'm posting this under rule variation 3. It's about my Aunt. This is not a new song, I started writing it last September. However, I don't think its been in a season before and I have been juggling the lyrics.
The video is from an open mic on Friday night.

If I get some time, I'll do a Berni cover but it looks like a busy week ahead. The uke group that I'm in is doing a mashup at a show on Sunday "House of Gold, Ob La Di and Soul Train". I needs to practice for that.

Hugely better, just since yesterday. Late yesterday afternoon the swelling finally switched directions and started going down. Today I can eat solid foods again though I can't quite open mouth wide enough to eat a burger without a knife and fork! LOL

Hoping to be able to get something easy in the can for season 122 today, and then do the tribute to Berni's In Search of Fire for 123 later this week.

I have been so busy working on a huge translation with a looming deadline that I have only just gotten around to peeking in here to see what the theme is for this week. GULP....

What can I say? I am so honoured that Alan chose my songs as the main theme for the week. It’s funny, but I always said to Carmen that if I were to die suddenly, could she inform you guys and ask for one of the Seasons' Hosts to have a tribute to Berni week. Well, this week will be like reading my own obituary ;) (Hope it’s not a premonition ;) )

In addition to my youtube site
https://www.youtube.com/user/TheBerniArmstrong/videos

There are a few things on my vimeo site:

If anyone wants me to send you lyrics or chords for any song, then just drop me a PM.

Thanks again for this honour, Alan.

Moltissimes mercès,

PS I can do any of my songs this week and it'll fit the theme, yeah! ;)
I hope I can get a moment to record a couple that I would like you to hear, but that have not fitted an existing theme to date.

Rest easy Berni... I saw that movie and it was Bernie who was giving the obituary to someone else who had died.

However I may have to realign the balance of the Universe and do the Seasonista anthem straight.

I was just doodling around with Crazy Bob's everybody must get stoned and your words just popped up,
and not wanting to miss an opportunity to throw a curved ball I recorded it in one take on the spot...
it really could have done with UkuleleDaveey on Kazoo to give it that authentic Dylan feel.

I hope I have not tortured your child... some parents are sensitive about what happens to their children.

Hah! Berni I noticed this and. although our language here is nearly unfailingly informal and fun, that this could even have been a sly implication by Brian suggesting just as you inferred that we were having something of a "lifetime achievement award" flavor. It's rather like the old joke, "Have you lived here all your life?" "Well, not yet, no." isn't it?

I'm glad you are pleased with the season. As you can imagine I'd much rather do this now than to do so at some point far in the future when you (if I don't do so first) shuffle off. I'm very happy that you are here to enjoy the tributes and that I am, too.

Now I have found one of your politically satirical songs without a set of lyrics attached and didn't understand the reference in one of the verses. I wonder if you'd mind if I sang it and substituted a jibe of my own in the one verse and then ask you for the explanation of the original later. I'd attempt not to render it unlistenable and would be happy to include a disclaimer so that folks would not think you'd made the weaker joke (mine). Are you up for such a deal?

Happy Berni Week!

Hi Alan, Dave (TCK) and everybody!
I've been very quiet recently and haven't joined in the fun recently, so I thought I'd make myself work doubly hard... I'm aiming to submit TWO videos this week (in effect for both Seasons 122 and 123) to honour two fellow seasonistas

The first one is Berni Armstrong (I spent the afternoon learning his song "The Far Side of the World", but I can't quite match Berni's passionate singing!):-

Back in my twenties...I was convinced that playing the accordion was the way to meet the ladies. Thank god Melissa looked past all that and decided to come on this ride anyway.
In any event- this is a song about my family.
It was the first song I ever learned...and yeah, I can play it on the accordion.
It is also dedicated to Ukuleledaddy. I am fairly certain if I strapped on the stomach steinway and asked him to play it with me, he would with a smile.
Right...I am really just here taking a break. And play some music. I will tackle one of Berni's tomorrow

Berni, Your the greatest. You wrote this song from a women's perspective and in my range. Couldn't have been a better fit for me:) Do you know how much we appreciate your talent, humor and generosity? Yep, its true!

I hope you don't mind that I shortened the song just a little because I had a two year old and two dogs playing tag and whooping it up behind me the whole time. I had to wait for the coast to be clear to get started. They were being very loud but having a ball! Sorry, this one doesn't feature them except for the screaming at the end that I tried to cut out:)

This is a continuation of tribute week, part 3 for me.

Over the months I have been involved with the Seasons, I have heard too many great musicians to name. I reached out to a few of those people whose work I really liked and asked if they would collaborate, and in most cases, they graciously agreed. So this entry is a tribute to the great artistry of Southside Mike. It's not a tune he did before (Alan, please don't banish us to the Island!), but his style runs deep through all his stuff, so he and I did this one together. It's my favorite collaboration of any I have done - a great tune, with one great musician, and a nice blend of the two of us. Hope you all like it.

I didn't have time to do a song last week, so I'm very pleased to take advantage of the tribute con't. option. This is for pabrizzer! I learned the Magnetic Fields's "Book of Love" a long time ago, after seeing his version, and took the opportunity to work up a new version of it for the Seasons. I decided it was time to push myself to start learning to use double stops and to integrate strumming and picking. Not at all easy for me, and this is my first try at both! I'm pretty pleased I managed to get it together.

Thank you for this very elegant rendition of a little Pink Martini song that has outsize meaning to me. Your phrasing makes it very beautiful. It's a far better version than mine.

One of my favorite seasonistas is the legendary Pabrizzer. He has such a passion for music as you can tell from the wide variety of the songs he has recorded. He is quite prolific and is so good with any genre. He is probably the most active member we have. He is usually the first guy to post and he has commented on everything I have done. He is a great player and singer and I love that he is passing along his passion to Cha. I am trying to do the same with my son Sam. How can you not love and respect the man? ....enough of my gushing. Following Alan's "Rule II"........
Here's one for two of my favorite season ladies; Little Hamster and the Headless Wonder.

Ginny: This sweet lady is such a huge part of the Seasons. She's like our den mother, keeping things in order, offering up wonderful ideas to keep things lively, and always spreading the Seasons spirit. Thanks for your buoyant energy Ginny. You're a constant reminder of why I keep coming back.

BEVOMU: And speaking of energy, this girl rocks! I love your song choices, your t-shirts and listening to your voice which somehow works for anything and everything you do. More than anything, I love that never let us see who you are. I've given you a bit of grief for that, and I hope you know it's all in fun (I'm the kind of guy who would pull the pig tails of the girls I liked in school). So glad you're here.

So I got a moment to do this while the girls were busy making a solar system model.
Now, this is not a rocking song. BUT, both Ginny and Lynda did it. Ginny's here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PayywnsfZgc). And BEV's here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EkZZP3yZcT8).

I hope to get to more tributes (including one particular Seasonista I'm meeting tonight). This week is already going by fast and ending early for me.

In season 100, Berni recorded the traditional Irish song "She Moved Through the Fair". His version is here (http://youtu.be/t-TZjf2Uhp8) As I wanted to have something in fairly early in the week, I thought I would record it myself.

There are two main versions of this song (and variations within them). One with three verses and one with four. Berni was dismissive of the four verse version in season 100. (What he said is here (http://forum.ukuleleunderground.com/showthread.php?91973-Season-100-Magic-and-loss/page12)) I went along with him in my comment on You Tube but I now think otherwise as I believe it is likely the four verse version is the older, partly because folk songs tend to lose verses in the oral transmission process but also because of differences in the lyrics.

The four verse version is how I first heard this song so that's what I have gone with.

I really liked this one Berni did for season 116. He wrote is as a duet, but I've recast it as a solo rendition. Hope you like it, Berni.

Unfortunately I only have time for one more vid this Season. This one is for Filipinouker. I love her videos. She's got a great voice and her uke playing is superb. I love her choice of songs too. Great idea for a theme Alan, I may need to mail Berni for one particular original of his I'm quite fond of.

Sorry to hijack the thread a little but if anyone wants to be part of smashing the record for the largest ukulele ensemble at St Mary’s Stadium in Southampton on July 18th and recieve a certificate for their record breaking efforts tickets can be booked by calling Hampshire Music Service on 023 8065 2037 or emailing music.service@hants.gov.uk.

The current record is held by 2,134 participants who performed at the Leiland Grow Incorporated Ukulele Picnic in Japan in July 2012 ....................The Southampton event so far has over 3,000 particpating so a record is looking good.

There is a deadline so contact the above as soon as poss if you wanna be a record breaker !!
More importantly the £6 ticket fees will be going to kids charities !!

Well I'm trying to do a tribute to a seasonista collab and I didn't realise what a damn PIG it is to sing. Its a beautiful song but boy oh boy I'm really struggling to sing it. I've now transcribed it into THREE different keys and its one of those that just defies a best key. This one may beat me but I suppose I'd best shut up, go away and practice. Well this one is for Tootler.
It is what came out when I picked up the descant recorder after listening to his version of She Moved Through the Fair (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4YW0y19TWVg#t=75). It is not the same melody exactly and I'm not sure if it is something else I have heard somewhere but I've called it Tootling.
Tootler has something to share almost every season and they are usually old English folk or good old rock and roll.
So this is for you Geoff.

Following Alan's "Rule II"...

I Can See Clearly

Thank you so much, Sean, both for the words of tribute and the song that you would not have done otherwise. I sure appreciate your regular presence in the Seasons and the fun way you interact. A hug and best wishes to you.

Hi Folks,

Please allow me to say that I'm loving everything you are playing this week. I was afraid that the enormous emotion of Dave's beautiful season last week would slow us down some. I've never been happier or more moved during a season than I was during that one. Thanks TCK! If you haven't seen and commented on all of the videos there in 122 I suggest that you do yourselves a favour and trot back over there to spend a happy hour or so.

Having said that, you're bringing more love an talent every week so I'm thinking we're heading for the Moon.
Thanks and deep love and respect to each one of you.

I'm putting the comments in the YT notes in case you think I'm slacking off, and have caught up just now. Please have a look at the playlist when you have a moment and ping me if I've missed adding your video. We're all in one big pot this time so perhaps I haven't buggered it up too badly.

Mainly gonna stick to family songs this week I think, don't know any Berni songs well enough to have a go at covering them.

The first one's not a very happy family song, just something I decided to do on the way home from work today. Didn't think my location through though. There's a main road just behind those bushes and an ice cream van went past at some point but I like how it turned out. It's a cover of The White Stripes' I'm Lonely (But I Ain't That Lonely Yet)

Right, this song has kicked my arse. It is THE song about family in my eyes, really suited to the uke and very simple. Or so I thought. The key changes were tough and and there's a fast bit in the middle eight that's a bit of a tongue twister. And then a fade ending that kept changing key that just fell apart but I left that blooper in.

Here is Our House by the magnificent bunch of nutty bastards that are Madness.

you bring out the devil in me

yeah baby

and you know that's also a song? by berni?

you can check out the super awesome original here...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mn59xzh1lYw

it's about unrequited love

i said to berni, "berni, can i tweak the lyrics of your wonderful song a bit, and make it a bit less wonderful, but so it's about requited love? 'cos i love all that stuff"

and he very kindly said yes

so, here is...

you bring out the devil in me 2

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rc6sywdXHcQ

thank you berni for letting me mess with your song-writing-genius mojo

you look like an angel, but you bring out the devil in me
you look like an angel, but you bring out the devil in me
i used to be sweet, i used to be shy
but now i've gone wild, and you're the reason why
you look like an angel, but you bring out the devil in me

whenever i'm near you, you bring out the devil in me
whenever i'm near you, you bring out the devil in me
i was a good girl, 'til you came along
i was in the choir, but now i sing a different song
whenever i'm near you, you bring out the devil in me

you had me at that first hello
you whispered sweet, you whispered low
you cast a spell right from the start
you just reached in and took my heart

you look like an angel, but you bring out the devil in me
you look like an angel, but you bring out the devil in me
i was kind of shy, but you changed all that
i was kind of coy, but now i'm bringing sexy back
you look like an angel, but you bring out the devil in me

Stormy Weather was done twice by the Ukelites... they must love that song... once with slide (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r_RZWy0Q5G0) and once with solo melody (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vsed6Sndw8E). I don't know how I have the nerve to attempt this song, but it has always been my policy, if you can't do it better do it differently with a key shift, and failing that you can always grow a used car salesman's mustache... or participate in this years high heel skiing in a party dress across a swamp (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=89T4p4ymvis) contest in Lapland Finland.

This one is a shout out to Filipinouker and Ombracorta and their great collaboration of "Days Aren't Long Enough" for Season 59. WATCH IT HERE (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NX-JS18Soew). This is one of my favourite collaborations and I really really struggled to do this justice. Until I tried it for myself I didn't realise just how difficult this song is to sing (well at least for me it is). Its one of those songs where the range seems to bamboozle my vocal chords. I tried it in the keys of F, C, D, G, Eb and Bb. Eventually I settled for Bb but to be honest I'm now wondering having finished recording and uploading that perhaps I should have actually tried it in the key of A major. Ah well, its too late now. Perhaps another day. ;-)

One thing that puzzles me is what on earth she would do if she went to a Ukulele festival and happened to walk past me. I wonder if she'd say hello or would she walk on by and remain anonymous? Perhaps that shall remain forever as one of life's riddles. ;-)

Here's a song with two family members in the title ... and two more in the lyrics ... that was intended to be recorded by family.

It was planned for the epic 20-Seasonistas-together-on-one-stage group contribution to Season 120 (songs based on classical music - this is Ponchielli's "Dance of the Hours") from the Ukulele World Congress in Indiana. It was a pretty perfect suggestion by FiL, since UWC is camp (the parenthetical subtitle of the song is "A Letter from Camp"). It's pretty perfect for the family theme too - a song about family, meant to be done with family, sent out to family.

I still have a UWC version of the lyrics planned, which I hope to record for you too.

Alas, rain (ironically, given the lyrics) and an absurdly late time slot conspired to put the kibosh on the group Seasonista performance. A lot of behind-the-scenes effort went into it by a whole lotta people, but it was not meant to be.

So instead of our Seasonista-UWC family, you have just me, sending it out there to both of these amazing and wonderful overlapping families.
If you're in only one of them, consider joining the other.

After hearing Brians version of "In The Pines" I wanted to add to that playlist. Its been done by so many seasonistas but two that have been overlooked are Mattydee and Joko. If there are any others I apologize for not coming across you. I have chosen to do a much more macabre version and there are many different lyrics to this american folk song. It had been covered by so many different people and Kurt Cobain brought it to a newer generation following more closely a Lead Belly version of the song.

Last week I tried to record a vid to honor Doug Frink. I just can't wrap my fingers around those sweet jazz chords he plays so well. But I wanted to pay tribute to him. I'll get there, someday Doug. I think you're amazing and I have to pinch myself every time I pick up your beautiful hand made ukulele. Thanks Doug.

I also tried my hand at a few songs that Librainian (Andrew) had done. Again, I had no luck, or skills. Andrew blows me away with his style and talent. He's also a friend I've had the great pleasure to meet and play with. He's a gracious guy who can play circles around me. I'm lucky to live close to such an inspiration.
So, I failed to do a decent recording of St Judy's Comet (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QHlQ2KKPcYE) or Beer Run (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bwUMmvOBQf0) or Hang On Little Tomato (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XZcBkHCsVMI). Sadly my week of tributes is done as I'm down and out with a crappy chest cold (and I REALLY wanted to do a song of Berni's!!). So you get a song I did for Season 121. I know, I know. I'm hoping the management won't mind that I drop this link here as my heart is in the right place with this recording. Though I had no idea what Season 122 would bring (or 123), had I known I would have held onto this song, I recorded it in honor of both TCK and Librainian. When I posted this vid in Season 121 I mistakenly mentioned that it was TCK and EugeneUkulele's versions that inspired me. I made a mistake and want to correct it here. It was TCK who recorded this song but I mistakenly wrote EugeneUkulele instead of Librainian, whose video I meant to reference. My bad Andrew, but I hope you know my heart was in the right place and it was indeed your video that had me itching to record this song since the first time I heard it, which was watching you.
Here's Andrew's version. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qI5FYu4fTI4)
I put mine up on The Island since it's not a new recoding, tribute though it is.
Oops, I almost forgot to include Dave's (http://youtu.be/kEJtbsl5th0) wonderful take on this song. I figue he'll forgive me since I piled on praise for my good friend last week. Wouldn't be here without you Dave.

here is my take on "blues suede shoes", played on my new "truly unfeasibly long necked - no really, however long you think it might be, double that, and it's still longer, no i mean it" ohana soprano uke, which arrived today... join me in my new uke day...

Here's one from Berni's treasure trove of CW offerings at Soundclick. Nice picture there, too! This is a relatively simple song (that's why I chose it) which could be embellished in sooo many ways, making it a fun song to do. I did it straight, to get it done in time, & changed only the octave, being too lazy to transpose. Of course, now I have a list if his songs I want to do, including Black Mascara, which uses my hometown in the chorus. (Texarkana. Both my point of origin and point of no return … see, Berni, I started your next CW song for you …:) )

This is so thoughtful of you Brian. You don't need to be religious to love the spirituals/gospel music. There is just something about it that most people appreciate. I just think its beautiful music and thats what draws me in. Lovely sentiment and I appreciate that coming from you. You've made my day!

I want to express how wonderful it has been to watch Wendy grow as a musician and a songwriter, since she first picked up a ukulele less than ten months ago. It has been pretty amazing to watch.

Last week, she wrote "Tiny Potato (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JJHwITD1bMU)", and it's one catchy song. I've put my own spin on it. (Hope you don't mind the changes, Wendy!) It may sound like I had way too much caffeine before I recorded it, but I was only drinking in the energy of the song.

What I love about the song is that it perfectly captures Wendy's irrepressible positivism. In a cynical, sarcastic, world, she radiates happiness and positive energy. If more people were like her, the world would be a much better place.

Wendy, I'm a tiny potato, and I believe in you.

I've been wanting to get started as a Seasonista ever since getting back from UWC6. Being new here I was not familiar with Berni, but I viewed many of his videos and was greatly enriched by the experience. I can see why you made his library of songs the first option for this week's challenge, Alan. He's great!

However; as a "first-timer" I opted to Keep It Sweet and Simple (KISS) and chose door number 3, a song that relates to family:

I've been humming this tune non-stop since I started learning it this week. Like Myrna, I remembered its existence well, and since I am here at the Illinois Shakespeare Festival, immersed in the words and work of a man named in the song, and immortalized in the original video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ewuSsm9Qzw), I knew it was the one for me this week. Plus, it's a phenomenally constructed song. Just great.

I was happy to pay tribute to Berni this week, as he once commented on a song of mine that he really wanted to hear me on his work. I hope this one passes muster. It's definitely in my regular repertoire now, that is certain.

I was unaware of your previous version before mine so I was so glad to discover it with all the changes as you learned it. Linda's superb finger style and vocals. Sean's lyrical and atmospheric performance, Jon's winged version with its tightrope walk up the neck, Alan's unique hammer and twang stylings and Pa gave it that driving Brizzer beat that carries you along. I'm gonna get in on the party In the Pines, but taking a cue from Linda, who I think is brilliant. Her playing's always brilliant and her singing is great, but she's also another one who normally has a kind word or two for my videos. So I was chuffed when she brought up Lead Belly/Nirvana's version of this. And played it brilliantly, as you'd expect. I lean a lot more to Nirvana here though.

I stand in an embarrassment of riches, to count each of you as my friend. This is amazing (and I wish that word weren't used so much) and I enjoyed every second of it. I couldn't take my eyes off the lap steel when it was in the frame, and my ears were tantalized by Shaggy and Saskia's harmony...their voices are like two ribbons swirling around each other. It's a surprise to see Michael play that bass, but he does that well too.

Thanks to BillSkidoo for proposing the song and doing final assembly, and for all of you for performing your particular specialties in it. I'm humbled to receive this tribute. Heartfelt hugs to each of you.

Okay Dear Ones,

I can't think of a better way to wrap up two weeks of tributes than with the Skidoo, Tigers, Shaggy combo celebrating our dear Ginny Turner. So well done everyone!

Please check to make sure that your songs are included in the Playlist (https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLeIzPEGGcS25kd6XMK8n3dkOX_zHHOmFH) today. And PM me especially if the video in question was your single entry for this season. I don't want anyone to be left out of the Sharpiestab (tm) so please double check.

I loved EVERY SINGLE ENTRY this season and will put every Seasonista who submitted an entry into the Sharpiestab(TM) grid one time. There will be two stabs and the winners will send me their email address so I can send them a link for a download of Berni's New Record with his Saturday Blues Project band, "The First Sip". If you want to purchase a copy for yourself or hear some of the tunes you can follow this link (http://hotblues.bandcamp.com/album/the-first-sip) to do so.

Special thanks go out to TCK who started this lovefest with the idea to make tribute videos for our favorite Seasonistas. I'd like to dedicate this Season to him as the Host who brought out the best of in each of us. I love you Son.

May I just add that I was extremely honoured to have been the focus of so much Seasonista energy this week. If I haven't commented on your entry, I missed it, so please PM me with a link to yours. I have been mightily busy this week. And although I have finally finished the translation today, I now need to read all 140,000 words again slowly to check for errors. So, I'll be busy for quite some time yet.

For those who didn't do one of mine (I know who you are ;) ) I was pleased to have a collateral role in inspiring some originals in a few cases.

This week's theme (124) was more or less what I would have chosen as my theme for any future hosting. As a songwriter, I love inspiring others to write songs (hence my theme in 83 and the songwriting workshops I have run in the past).

Here's to all the originals I hope to hear over many successful seasons!

I leave the last word to one on of my heroes.

"...Practicing an art, no matter how well or badly, is a way to make your soul grow, for heaven's sake. Sing in the shower. Dance to the radio. Tell stories. Write a poem to a friend, even a lousy poem. Do it as well as you possibly can. You will get an enormous reward. You will have created something.” - Kurt Vonnegut (A Man Without a Country)

You are one of a kind, a singer-songwriter with wit, verve and good cheer for everyone else. Your songs are always a highlight of the week. I'm really happy that Alan aimed a Season's theme your way.

I know you did Ginny and thanks for making it public. That was my little joke. I know that a couple of people wrote to explain that they were not going to be able to join in the fun this week too.

Motion made and seconded! All in favor? AYE! That was a fun Season. Thanks once again, Alan. First times are definitely the most memorable, and you were "ever so gentle" a leader/host. :) Well done and Bravo!

Thanks Friends!
I think what I realize each time I host is that it's the non-hosting Seasonistas that make our World go 'round every Season.
I love the creativity that each of you brings to the challenge
Thanks to all of you for allowing me the privilege of watching the process from an internal perch once in a while.
You're a talented, inventive and fascinating bunch.

There are so many you I am completely enamored of...this is no secret. Alan- You are at the top of that list as my adopted father (because lord knows I need one)...but yeah, many of you figure highly on that scale. Know that folks, and bless you for what you do every week.
On to Bernie. Bernie is a treasure. Very few realize this rank in my scheme...but the reality is, he puts his real self out there every week for us, and I admire that so. I looked at 124 and shut down....I am not ready to do what he does with ease and aplomb every dang week, and I sure as hell wont be there. Yeah, I am lame, and fearful, and guarded...But really Bernie- you are an inspiration to us all-even the folks that did not rock a cover at you. I know that is true. We stand in awe while you do your thing every week. Know that my friend.
Alan- one hell of a week pops- truly inspired idea here. Bernie...please for the love of god, don't ever stop bringing us this. Arms of the internet...big old hug...thank you my friend.
Cheers- The Cloverdale Kid

I am choking up here guys. Thank you so much for the love, I assure you it is reciprocated. I would even go as far as to say that you guys are keeping me alive! A songwriter with no audience just gets all kind of shrivelled inside and stops. You would not believe how poor my output was in the period immediately before the Seasons!

Oh and thanks Alan for letting me read/listen to my own obituary ;)

Hope you lucky winners like our album.

Thanks for the wonderful post-season posts dear friends. Thanks to Berni for a wealth of songs to inspire us. Congrats to Dwitt and Mikef for being Sharpiestab(tm) winners. Your prizes are away just a few moments ago. I hope you enjoy the album. I certainly do.

Finally, if you want to hear what a powerhouse a guy like Berni can be in the studio with his band, here's a place you can get your own download of The First Sip by The Saturday Blues Project (http://hotblues.bandcamp.com/album/the-first-sip). I believe you'll be happy that you did.

Now, onward me hearties!

Sometimes it is hard to move on...I wish we lingered some weeks.
Oh well, no stopping me anyway- the internet has no traffic signs.
Do you remember how awesome this was?

Hi all,

I have finally gotten around to adding all your contributions of my songs to Season 123 on my list of "Berni Covers & Collaborations (https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLXu-7kZbBnIPIGnWbCj_QxUh1dMYdmh7J)"

Please have a look there and check that I haven't missed any of your contributions off.

It was a great opportunity to listen again to all those wonderful versions of my songs you guys did. A big thank you once again to Alan for the theme and una abraçada (a big hug) for everyone who did a version of one of my songs x x x

PS If anyone ever does a version of my song (on video) sometime, please tell me so I can add it to this list.
