I'm not gifted with any music theory knowledge, but it would be nice to know when I find a chord that sounds nice what chord it is I'm playing... Does anyone know of a tool online or otherwise that I can show the frets I play and it will tell me what chord I'm playing?

Try Uke Chord Finder (http://www.sheep-entertainment.nl/ukulele/index.html) and download the PC version (left column). Leave the icon on your desktop and you can use it without going online.

Try Uke Chord Finder (http://www.sheep-entertainment.nl/ukulele/index.html) and download the PC version (left column).

For my fellow Linux geeks, this one will run under WINE.

Like you, I don't have any knowledge of music theory but thanks to Howlin' Hobbit, I understand it much better. Click on the link in his signature and find his free article about music theory. I don't remember what it's called exactly. Maybe he can tell you.

Edit: I found the link on his site. It's called Cheater Theory (http://www.howlinhobbit.com/docs/cheater_theory_v2.pdf).

Alright, a fellow Linux geek. I got it running under WINE in Ubuntu right now.
