I'm considering ordering a custom uke and I'm curious if anyone here would be interested.

I'm looking to pay under $450 for it. I'm looking for a solid-body electric in the vein of Teton and Eleukes - clean amplified sound, quiet unplugged sound.

I'd basically be happy with a replica of one of those, come to think of it. Except that I'd want one with a truss rod.

As for materials, I wouldn't mind any crap material that you have lying around. I just want it to be a solid body in order to get that clean amplified sound.

And, to be clear, I want one that takes regular uke strings, not steel strings.

Are any builders interested?

Two thoughts:
1. It's a little more than your price, but feature-wise, it sounds like the Ponos fit your criteria

2. Might be worth a call to Blue Star Guitar. They mainly do steel strings but I think they do some acoustics as well, so might be able to blend them into what you want.

Thanks, Jim. Thing is, I have a Teton and the lack of a truss rod is basically the one major drawback - it has a buzz that won't go away. I took it to a technician and he said, "The issue is the neck angle and I can't fix it because it doesn't have a truss rod."

I didn't know you could adjust neck angle with the standard truss rod on a solid body:confused: I know you can adjust the neck relief with it :)
Someone tell me if i'm wrong :(

Bent neck & no truss rod = clamps and a kettle

Neck pitch wrong = raise/lower bridge/saddle, unless it's a bolt-on, in which case, just shim it

Just my :2cents:, but bear in mind it's 30 years since I did any of this stuff in anger, I was no better than an average guitar tech anyway and I was only working on guitars and basses.

This thread seems to be in the wrong direction considering what form it's in. Looks more like a "buying tips" thread.

Just trying to provide some pointers to luthiers who might be interested in the project.

No matter what pointers you put down, that budget won't even cover the cost of the design and setup for most of the guys here, IMHO.

Not trying to be rude, just trying to be real - there's a reason I imagined the sound of crickets early on in this thread, and the reason is the budget. HOWEVER, I'm glad the OP was real enough to put that down. Saves a lot of time for the builders that may otherwise have been interested.

For comparison, here's an older one:

Here's a more recent one. I could probably show you a neck through bass guitar that has similar elements to this neck through, but that's another forum altogether.

That being said, we all know who has built solid bodies, and probably still does. But the community chased him away (sort of, I guess - still seem him from time to time).

I want to give another shoutout to Jim for pointing me to Bruce, and a shoutout to Bruce himself, too.

Bruce said that he could do what I was asking for, for just a little bit more than the price I mentioned at the start of the thread.
