Strathmore Uke and Guitar Summit? Anyone going?

I'll be there! Registered early!

I'd love to go but it's held during the day and the price of admission makes it difficult me to attend. I'm paying off college loans for my daughter and my son is in school, so there is very little extra money right now. maybe after I retire...

Are most gatherings of this sort this expensive? I havent looked to far into it yet but man that seems steep.

There are a lot of expenses. To name a few - venue, insurance, security, artists fees... That being said, there's usually something to cater to your budget. We have a local group of folk musicians that work with the city of Poway, California to put on top notch events for no or little cost:

...but back to the Strathmore Uke and Guitar Summit - That's a top notch venue with top notch performers, top notch teachers and top notch itinerary. It looks to be well worth their pricing. Ric

The cost is really fantastic considering what you get. I've gone for the past 2 years. So many workshops with great musicians who you can usually get to the side occasionally for a little one on one chat. Workshops galore. Music every night. Dinner and uking with friends old and new. Total immersion in uke for days. Big concert at the end where you usually get to play onstage with your teachers. I can't say enough good about it. Only thing is... bring a recorder cuz your going to forget half of what you learned!! You know, I don't remember ever having seen a guitar there, LOL!

Glad there are a couple of people I know going :)

I'd like to go but can't. Last fall I did a group class taught by Marcy Marxer (via House of Musical Traditions), which was great. Several participants recommended Strathmore's event.

I most certainly carried a guitar for four days of instruction with Kumu, Keola Beamer and will always consider it a high point of my musical life!

It will be all ukulele for me this year. Four days with hours of instruction from multiple, high caliber instructors and nightly concerts are well worth the cost for me. Strathmore is an amazing organization with excellent facilities and staff. Kathy and Marcy gather exceptional groups of instructors every year.

I'm glad there were some guitars there, (I knew that), just being snyde :) I would have taken the Beamer class if I could play guitar. That guy is amazing and I love the sound of slack key guitar playing.
