Hey all you UUers! August's lesson is now online! Uke Minutes 20 - I'll Be Your Baby Tonight A Bob Dylan song from the 60's ... which was covered in a pop/reggae style by Robert Palmer & UB40 in the 90's ... which was covered in an island/acoustic style by Ka'au Crater Boys ... which was covered by Aldrine and Ryan and relased this year! woah. Lots of cool stuff to be learned from this tune - check it out, and if you need help, we're always here for you. Questions? Comments? Thoughts about the Sleeping Giant (behind Aldrine in the Play-Along)? Post them below! Ooh, speaking of legends, don't forget to submit yours for a chance to win a new Ohana uke)!
Hey UUers! Finally had the time to create a thread for this episode of Uke Minutes - Uke Minutes 55 - Augmented Chords ! Augmented chords are used like seasoning to sprinkle some flavor into your songs. They are frequently used in jazz music, and sparingly in pop. Some famous examples of augmented chords in songs include: "Drown In My Own Tears" by Ray Charles, "Mama Mia" by ABBA, and "I Found a Way" by Drake Bell (theme song for the Nickelodeon hit show "Draka & Josh"). Got questions, thoughts, ideas, examples of songs, cheat codes involving augmented chords? Post them below!
Hey folks! Took awhile for me to post a thread on this episode of Uke Minutes (things were a little crazy this weekend), but here it is: Uke Minutes 54 - Blues Scales! Choose notes from the blues scale that sound good to you to make sweet, sweet musical solo creations! Famous examples of blues scales in music include: "Smoke on the Water" by Deep Purple, "Come as You Are" by Nirvana, the verses of "Poker Face" by Lady Gaga, the intro bass line to "Wannabe" by the Spice Girls, as well as the guitar and harmonica solos in every single blues song ever written. Got more examples of the blues scale used in songs? Got questions about this episode? Got milk? Leave a comment below!
Hi guys! I missed the live lesson this week and I can't find it on Ustream. Will it be up soon? Thanks
older uke lessons taught by aldrine are on that iamhawaii.com, however they dont seem to work on that site. Was wondering why not all of em are posted on UU?
Hey UU people! I'm sure most of you guys called it - after last week's episode covering major pentatonic scales, this would have to be the next logical progression: Uke Minutes 53 - Minor Pentatonic Scales But these sound oh, so much cooler! Many times you might think a solo sounds frighteningly complex, only to realize that it's primarily made up of just the notes in the minor pent scale (famous examples include ACDC's "Back in Black" or Hendrix's "Purple Haze", just to name a couple). Are you ready to drop some ill comments on this bad boy? Post what you've got below!
I dont know if this has been brought up and its not even a really big thing. Just thought i would share for the picking part I believe you play 10 on the e string twice the first time and once the 2nd time. =) again not big deal just thought i would share haha.
What's up ma' UU peeps!? Its Saturday = new Uke Minutes! Uke Minutes 52 - Major Pentatonic Scales Use the notes in the pentatonic scale to create solos, licks, and bass lines for your favorite major chord progressions! (Famous examples include the intro picking for "Sweet Home Alabama" by Lynyrd Skynyrd and the bass line to "My Girl" by The Temptations) Got questions, comments, alternate major pentatonic scale patterns, musings about whether or not the cactus behind Aldrine poked him in the end - post them all below!
Hellooo everybody! Uke Minutes, comminatcha - Uke Minutes 51 - Blues Ukulele Chords Just the tip of the iceberg on blues, but an easy start. What do you guys think? Did you spot the real chicken in the background? Comments, questions, tips, "blues clues", answers to the meaning of life ... post them all below and help others to chase away the blues!
Excellent video. I really like the way the lesson was put together. MAHALO!
Hey people - This month's episode of Uke Lessons is finally here (again)! Uke Lesson 16 - Stuck On You Check it out, absorb it, let it simmer, and if you got any questions whatsoever (or comments, or ideas, or snide remarks, or encouraging words), lay them down below!
Does anyone have those tabs I started typing during the ... uhh lesson. I only have the first part because I wasn't paying attention to the latter half. :) appreciate it.
This is probably the fastest way for us to see how many people are experiencing problems with our video players. We're trying to fix it for everyone. The more info you can provide the better it would be for us. Thanks. -Rayan
It's up on the front page! Yay! Tell us what you think and show us your stuff here.
Hey UUers! This week on Uke Minutes ... Uke Minutes 47 - How to Bend a Note (or "Bends and Pre-bends") Not to be confused with decompression sickness ("the bends") or stipends for clergymen ("prebends"), this week's episode includes a nice little note-bending trick to help you to bend those especially tough white strings that everybody uses. Check it out, and if you've got questions, comments, tips, tricks, ideas about bending - post them below! (Extra points to the person who can guess what song the background beat was modeled after!). Hope your day is terrific!
Hey all you cool kids of the Underground! It's Uke Minutes time! Uke Minutes 46 - How to hold Bar Chords (yup, we really are on episode 46! ... that's waaaay past 28. dude.) So, an ukulele player walks into a barre ... How'd you guys like this one? I know a lot of you have been mentioning bar chord frustration and asking about them - did this vid help at all? Aldrine was trying to think of the best way to explain the thumb placement concept. He came up with talking about ducks. Does it make sense? Do you have your own special tips/tricks for holding barre chords? Did you notice the real duck in the background of the video? Post your comments below!
Hey guys! This week's episode of Uke Minutes is up! Uke Minutes 45 - Diminished Chords This one was kind of a challenge to explain visually, and some of the note and number notation might not technically be correct, but the concept is there - if you have any questions about this ep. or if you need anything clarified, go ahead and post below! Keep rockin'!
The new episode of Uke Lessons is up! Uke Lesson 16 - Girl I Wanna Lay You Down While we're looking for a new instructor, Rayan decided to jump in, just so we wouldn't miss a month.
