I see a couple of things that might be helpful to others in terms of memorizing the fingerboard. If you look at the fingerboard diagram on page 9, note that:
4th fret, strings 4 and 3 spell the word "BE".
5th fret, strings 3, 2 and 1 spell the word "FAD".
    If you're a guitar player, 7th fret notes are the same note names as the open guitar strings 4, 3, 2, 1: D, G, B, E

From those, you can use his tips on page 10 to locate other notes with identical names.

H, thank you. I think if we can all help build a library of additional resources like that as we go, it will be a huge benefit to everybody.

Maybe we need a 'resources' thread, or would it be better in the thread it refers to?

    Happy New Year to all!
Hms, see, this is why it's so good that you were the one to start this new group! LOL. I think a resources thread is a great idea, as it can serve those who do not have the book! I think we should include our links and helpful tips in the threads too, so they'll be double listed. That way we'll have them organized for our own use too.

    Jamie,
Done, and have added the lambchop Learn the Fretboard post.
Don't mind doing this, but I expect you to do some of my learning for me!

I suspect folks might have a number of questions and some confusion in the chapters ahead. I'm happy to help out in any way I can. If only others could learn for us! Haha! That would sure make it easier. But if it were easy, everybody would do it, right?

Here are a couple of little drills I'm giving myself:

    1. On each string, find all of the Cs up to the 15th fret.
    Find all of the Gs.
    Find the Ds.
    Find the As.
    Find the Es.
    Find the Bs.
    Find the Fs.
    Repeat.
    Challenge: Repeat again!

    2. On the fourth string, find the Fs, Bs, Es, As, Ds, Gs, Cs.
Do it on the third string.
Do it on the second string.
Do it on the first string.
    Repeat, backwards (C, G, D, A, E, B, F on each string)

    3. Eat Chocolate to recover.
