My first thought upon seeing the photo is that the thorns might help as a deterrent to over-eating and thus help with weight loss.

Kinda hard to hold the utensil when all your fingers are wounded and aching from the thorns...unless you are a glutton for punishment.

But I have to say that the craftsmanship is TOP NOTCH!
