I am just getting into the ukulele, and to be honest, rediscovering the joy of music for myself. I went to school to be a music teacher, and after 5 years of undergrad, and 2 1/2 years of graduate school, and two music degrees, (and a few years of teaching...)I was so burned out I could barely listen to music.
(a side note, I no longer teach music, or really have much to do with it besides dabbling on homemade instruments and of course, obsessively listening to all music...but technically, I just work at a tractor dealership now.)
Of course, with something that you have been so close to for so many years, like I was with music, it is only a matter of time before you feel the hole it left in your life after it is gone.....
Most importantly, it's just so dang fun. I guess since music had become my job....for years and years....it's just wasn't my passion anymore.....until now.
I feel like the part of me that made me wanted to be in music to begin with (which had long ago gone to sleep within me) has reawoken and is frantically and joyously making up for lost time!
