I made this one for around $50 (probably cost more these days) It works very well. Temperature controlled and heats quickly. Shaping the chunk of aluminum was the hardest part without real metal shaping tools. I did most of it with a heavy belt sander. I had this metal box from something else but a metal electrical receptacle box would work just as well. As with anything that gets this hot and is electrical and self made please know what you are doing and don't burn down your shop.

This is a safety suggestion after having used several types of canister stoves over the past 10 years.

How do you turn off the gas in a hurry? Can you reach the little piece of wire that controls the gas flow if it overheats or something goes wrong, or you just need to turn it off in a hurry?

Yes, valid concern I guess.
My neighbor is a little more … adventurous than me. His current project is welding a motor cycle.
If this thing is tried out it will be outside in the garden.
