My wife plays as does my friend Steafan Hannigan who wrote an instruction manual and teaches. Steafan's son Oisin is also a great bodhran player and teacher.

I gave the bodhran a whirl for several years and the Stefan Hannigan manual was the way I learned. Then I found the uke and never looked back. But I think the tipper (the bodhran beater) exercises and the technique helped my strumming immensely.

My bodhran head dried out too much and has a large split along the frame. I do have a replacement head but have not gotten around to completing the work on it. Just never did get played that much. Was a gift from my in laws from the Ireland trip. Just an inexpensive Waltons.

Maggie keeps a spray bottle in her bodhran case. Some folks also keep a hair dryer for damp days.
