One of the pioneers of modern electric jazz guitar, 87 year old Bucky Pizzarelli, will be performing tonight as a special guest with Howard Arlen and Jeanne Gies at Germano's in Little Italy in Baltimore. I can hardly wait! If I live to 87, I hope I can put a sentence together and remember what day it is. Go Bucky!

Wow! Great solo from him at the 2:50 mark. Sweeeeeeet!

This is the kind of stuff I would love to play on ukulele. One of the "kinds of stuff", at least.

Oh my gosh, Bucky has given nothing up to time-- his playing is as sharp and fluid as ever. Howard Alden is an incredible player as well. What a great show it's going to be!

Edited to add:

Just to show it runs in the family, here's Bucky's son Jon Pizzarelli, with one of my favorite singers, Jane Monheit:

Well, this is the kind of stuff I love to play. Now that I've heard Bucky's performance, I'm removing Stompin' at the Savoy from my playlist.

What a great day on UU. Some terrific jazz posts.
