I'd go with a tailpiece - keeps the tension off the topCool project!

I'm going to enlarge that, print it, cut out the tailpiece, and attach it to the uke. ;)

I actually have a small chrome tailpiece I could use. I just realized that the strings will be too short. Well, they do stretch over time, don't they? I'll tighten them up and wait six months. ;)

I've decided to go the tailpiece route. I have a small chrome, but I think I'll make one out of wood.

Try putting a thin strip of felt (Dollar store craft aisle) around the perimeter of your body under the plate. Could be a 1/4" wide or so. On some resonator guitars they use felt under the resonator cone to dampen unwanted vibrations. In your case the plate is the resonator. Coukd be a quick fix for ya.
