It is Season TWO-oh-TWO ... brought to you by Uke On! duo and The Number 2!
So of course our theme is called "2 by 2", and is all about duos and the number 2!
There are TWO requirements for each video you submit.
1) It must be made by a duo (you and somebody who is not you).
2) It must embody the concept of "2-ness" in one of the specific ways outlined below.
REQUIREMENT #1 - VIDEO MUST FEATURE A DUO:
Each video must be made by a duo ... you and someone else.
If you're already a duo, like the Ukelites, or We Tigers, or say, Uke On! (who?!), this part will be easy for you.
If you usually play solo, you will have to find a collaborator. Your collaborator can play with you live (friend, family member, your mailman, innocent passerby, random stranger at a holiday party) ... really, it should not be too hard to find someone to make a video with you.
Or they can be a long-distance collaborator you edit in via whatever technological wizardry you wish - you know how fond we all are of this sort of collaborative magic in the Seasons.
You are welcome to do whatever multi-tracking or other fancy stuff you like ... or keep it simple ... anything goes, high-tech or low-tech ... so long as you bring us a duo.
The only thing you cannot do is use multi-tracking to do a duo with yourself ... your duo partner must be a person who is not you. We really love making music together as a duo ... you can see in our welcome video all the fun and the messiness of working, playing, creating with another human ... and that is the experience we want you to have this week.
There must be at least one ukulele played in your video, of course, and your duo partner must contribute something musically to the collaboration ... but it doesn't have to be anything fancy - could be shaking a bit of percussion, or rapping or hand-clapping ... or one of you could sing and one could play ... just have some musical fun with another person.
Of course duos with two ukes and harmony vocals and such are most welcome here too ... but it's not at all required ... we want to make it as easy as possible for you to find a partner and have some fun with them.
TWO EXCEPTIONS:
EXCEPTION #1 - NEWBIE CLAUSE
As always, I want to do everything possible to encourage new Seasonistas to jump in, so if it's your first Season, or close to it, and you don't feel up to doing a duo, jump in by yourself. But, you know ... if you could find someone to add a little backbeat or something ... go for it.
And ... Seasonistas are super friendly supportive people and love doing collabs ... so if you're newish ... or haven't yet made your first Seasons video ... feel free to just ask in the thread, and someone is bound to offer to work with you. I promise magic will happen for both of you if you ask.
EXCEPTION #2 - GROUPS LARGER THAN 2
It's New Year's week ... and many of you may be gathering with family, or (like us) going to parties. (Neil is hosting one on January 1st, and I'm doing one with two friends on Sunday the 3rd ... so you may see us in a large group video or two this week!)
So feel free to make videos with more than two people ... just try to feature maybe a lead duo out front. You can even feature multiple duos in your large group video ... just, you know, one at a time.
REQUIREMENT #2 - SONG CHOICE EMBODIES "2-NESS":
Your song must fit one of the following categories:
1) A song made popular by a duo
Songs featuring two distinct vocal parts in a conversation (or counterpoint) with each other (a la "You Don't Bring Me Flowers") are especially encouraged. Harmony songs are great too.
But any song popularized by a duo (in our video we mentioned Heart, Hall & Oates, etc) is great. Can be any kind of duo, same-sex or opposite, romantic or otherwise, etc.
2) A song featuring a NAMED duo
Romeo & Juliet, Batman & Robin, Jack & Jill, Bonnie & Clyde, Thelma & Louise, Snoopy & the Red Baron. (If you do that last one on Sunday, we're quite happy for you to post it to both 201 and 202, if BDU is cool with it.)
Must be a named duo. (Not just any pair or couple, because that could be almost any song.) The named duo doesn't have to be in the title, but if not, they should be the main focus of the song.
3) A song with a word or phrase meaning "2" in the title
"Two", "both", "second", "twins", "double", "twice" ... any word like this conveying "2-ness" in the title would qualify.
4) A song whose main focus is some form of "2" concept
A song whose main focus is some form of 2-ish-ness. I can't offhand think of a song that conveys 2-ness without a 2-ish word in the title, but if you find one ... go for it. A song about Noah's Ark, maybe?
So go forth and make music with someone ... make a new friendship or deepen an existing one.
And may 2016 bring you all the best of everything. Happy New Year! Uke On!

There's also a second playlist for Season 202 "orphans" - solo videos you've made in hopes that someone will add something to them to complete the duo. This is a great approach if you're finding yourself challenged to put together a duo some other way. So feel free to just post solo videos that fit the song-choice criteria and ask, and I will add you to this playlist until your video finds a "mate".
