Season 492 - If I Had The Wings Of A Dove

Oh, this was a treat for me to watch because I had forgotten about it. Do monsters count as animals? Well, Me thinks they do!

Some of you know I’m an unabashed Chuck Brodsky fan so I couldn’t resist this little ditty which has a sparrow, cows, pigs, chickens and one horny bull in it. ‘Nuff said. I am trying out some new software which allows me to do the whole thing in my iPad which speeds things up considerably.

I record with Movie Pro and my Apogee mic then import the resulting video into Luma Fusion and edit. Then I export the audio only to Final Touch and do some audio adjustments and adjust levels there then export that back to Luma Fusion for the final reader and direct upload to YouTube.

I’m curious how it sounds on your end…

Not only do crocodiles rock but so do little blue parakeets. Don’t worry. It’s OK to hold them this way when they are first being trained. Unless, of course, they really seem to hate it then that would be kind of cruel.

Thank you Del, Janet, Rob, Andrew and Jon for your songs!
I think i won't say anything more here, on what I feel and think of the songs you bring.

But I do wanna take this opportunity to mention how good it is to see Jon here with a new song!

Welcome home, Jon!

Hope everyone is having a good day or evening wherever you are!
We have about 2 and a half more days to go until this Season ends.
Anyone who has not posted before are most welcome to join us.

I would like to share a Maya de Vitry song.
Later!

Could'nt resist this one.I remember Harry Bellafonte singing this in my youth.Sorry its a bit quiet you may want to turn your sound up but then again you might want to turn it down:D:)

The last one for this week... I suspect.... Unless my muse has other ideas.

This one is a true shanty. The previous one is a Sea Song. The difference? Shanties were work songs with a rhythm that helped coordinate work. The lead singer (the Shantyman) usually sang a line (often telling a story, as here) and then the crew joined in the chorus while pulling on the rope, turning the capstan, or whatever else the shanty had been designed to facilitate. They would then rest a moment while the shantyman sang the next line.

In 1985, I had the honour to sing alongside Stan Hugill, who was the last living professional shantyman (retired) and have him join in the choruses of one of my shanties..

Songs which were not designed with this structure are usually referred to as forecastle songs. The Fo'csle being the place where the off duty men gathered to socialise. Here songs would be sung for their entertainment value. My previous song is more of a fo'csle song than a shanty.

This one is based on a true episode in which a seal hunting crew were shipwrecked on an uninhabited island and how they fared next is told in the shanty.

I hope you enjoy:

PS In no way do I support the activities described in both of my recent sea based entries.
Long Live Greenpeace!

A recitation of a Charles Bukowski poem. Since I have been incapacitated after having a stroke, I somehow find a strange consolation in these words, and think if a cat can do it, there is hope for everyone.

Here is one I enjoy, hope you do too.

That was fun, Val, your wrap!

I have updated the playlist now. And it just occured to me that Dave will be posting his theme soon. But there is still plenty of time to post more songs here if you want.

Thanks to Stanley, Berni, Rob and Liz for your songs! I enjoyed all of them. I especially liked Berni's shanty.

Stanley - you know i am charmed by your entries, i know many others here are delighted by them too
Berni - thanks for your background stories and quick intro and lessons to various topics whenever you post
Rob - i saw you played a song here sometime ago, something you wrote, after you suffered the stroke, and i was very moved by that. Can you still play a little? I look forward to hearing your songs again.
Liz - it's been a while since i last heard you. I have been absent for a long time. You sound and look great. Nice to see and hear you again. And your Ghost Chickens In The Sky was fun!

Time for bed here.
Um maybe I will share another song? I found this wonderful musician (and artist) through I think Todd B's channel.

Goodnight my friends. Time for bed here. X
