That’s The Way That The World Goes ’Round - John Prine, 1978

Sorry John, I changed a few words that made me uncomfortable.

It's been a while since I contributed some Wilco to the Seasons. This was the second song they played at both shows I went to when they swung through the Bay Area a few weeks ago. I am pretty sure it was not written with the current situation in mind though...

And a fun little short one from the Decemberists...

Thanks for hosting Del, and also for your generous contribution to clean drinking water charities.

Sorry John, I changed a few words that made me uncomfortable.
Apparently a woman asked him to sing the Enchilada song somehow that is what she heard when he sung " half a inch a"

Wow - not even 2 days into the season and after an overnight shower (see what I did there!?) of entries there are now 31 songs on the playlist! That’s a wonderful effort - please keep them pouring (and there!!!) in! :D
Thank you all! :)

A tenuous reference to the sea
… When I was a young boy
My mama said to me
"There's only one girl in the world for you
And she probably lives in Tahiti"
… I'd go the whole wide world
I'd go the whole wide world just to find her
… Or maybe she's in the Bahamas
Where the Caribbean Sea is blue
Weeping in the tropical moonlit night
Because nobody's told her about you
… I'd go the whole wide world
I'd go the whole wide world just to find her
I'd go the whole wide world
I'd go the whole wide world
To find out where they hide her
I'd go the whole wide world
I'd go the whole wide world just to find her
… Why am I hanging around in the rain right here
Trying to pick up a girl
Why are my eyes filling up with these lonely tears
When there's girls all over the world
… And is she lying on a tropical beach somewhere
Underneath a tropical sun
Pining away in a heatwave there
Hoping that I won't be long
I should be lying on that sun swept beach with her
Caressing her warm, brown skin
And then in a year or maybe not quite
We'll be sharing the same next of kin
… I'd go the whole wide world
I'd go the whole wide world just to find her
I'd go the whole wide world
I'd go the whole wide world
To find out where they hide

Great cause this week Del, so had to get at least one song in. This mentions both water and snow in the lyrics. Written by John Hurley and Ronnie Wilkins, perhaps the best known versions by Nicky Thomas, and later a fab cover (well I thought so anyway 😊) by Paul Young.

John ... you're STILL HERE!!! Hello, Del, this was the first song that came to mind for your "wet" week ... an old chestnut, I know, but I did manage to find the verse (which I later discovered was supposed to be sung as the bridge ... oh, well!) Herewith ...

Hi Del! Forgive me for this one, I couldn't resist... :- D
1982 is the year I graduated high school here in the USA and went off to college, and this song was on the radio all that freshman year at the good old University Of Oklahoma. We all thought it was hilarious and fun for dancing, but it is quite racy. Try not to blush.

Here you go Del: Singing in the Bathtub Cleary, Magidson & Washington 1929

Val reminded me of this tune: Singing in the shower's like singing in the rain

Thanks for the fun theme and very worthwhile season. Here's a shot at:

Had some fun after dinner- just know I am not being mean here- we laughed our faces off afterwards. We also believe we are the first to bring Don Gibson to the seasons. That should count for extra.

This video is a celibation of being in and out of water. The song itself appeal to my quirky nature, and i am grasping at straws to say that it features an octopus in an aquarium. Let me introduce you to the weid and whacky world of comic book writer Jeffery Lewis... and if your interest is piqued check out his History of Communism part 5 North Korea

i took my darling out to the aquarium
sea creatures stared at us and we stared back at them
my baby freaked when she peeked at that 8-legged blob with a beak
she was too scared to speak
i said don't be upset it's only an octopus
don't bother it and i'm sure it won't bother us
please don't be upset my darling, please don't get upset
my baby came riding to meet me one time
on the crowed last car of the downtown-bound 9
she was brave but she caved
when the train was delayed
it was just the last straw in her hard busy day
i said don't get upset 'cuz it's not a catastrophe
nothing will happen and soon you'll be back with me
please don't be upset my darling , please don't be upset
my gal's got a headhache, her ankle is hurting too
boots she bought gave her a rash & her winsdom tooth
is coming in and it's damp out and she's having cramps
and she's so mad at me cuz i didn't shave
i said don't be upset i know you're feeling sensitive
i'll try to be kinder and be more attentive
please don't be upset my darling please don't get upset
darling i said, i'm gonna be 27 soon
i've only got rejection letters and a sense of impending doom
i think it's too late for me
all the comic companies hate me
and i try but it's always the same
i guess my art is just lame and it's strange but still somehow i'm
always not suiting their needs at this time
and she said ........don't be upset,
you know that you're wonderful
just keep on trying ...(actually what she really said was)
all you ever wanna talk about is your self
and your comic books and your album and your tour
and everytime i see your friends they just ask
me where you are again and it hurts
it makes me feel like dirt
i'm just gonna write where you are on my shirt
and i said don't be upset, don't be in a bad mood
let's just go to a show and hang out and feel good
come on please don't be upset my darling,
please don't be upset, i'll do anything baby, just don't be upset .

Morning folks! :)
Bit pushed for time - I’ll catch up with listening and commenting later. Thank you all once again for your participation and your fantastic music - it’s a great week already.
Here’s a little plug for the charity we’re supporting this week:

Here is one the muse inspired after I had ruminated on the theme for a couple of days. I must stress this is NOT autobiographical 😉

Hope you enjoy this tale of illicit passion and guilt

Probably the last one from me this week. This is a song we used to do in our weekly Uke group and I always loved doing it. Plenty of water in this one. As you know Del, unlike the Monkees, I’m not a believer but I still like hymns, carols, gospel music….all that kind of wonderful thing. I dug out my mando for this. It needs a decent set up but I’ve neglected it of late so here it is :)
