Those stomp pedals to sound like kick drums

Are you talking about the Porchboard bass or the Ellis stomp box?

I've got the Porchboard bass. I bought it off Craigslist for about $200. I like it. The Ellis I think sells new for about $179. They come up every now and then on eBay. I've heard good things about the Ellis.

You can YouTube or google either pedal and find videos of how their used and how they sound.

The ellis seems more "organic" than a looping pedal.

But the looping pedal might yield more interesting possibilities.

Here is a video of a friend using one last week:

I have tried it, but for me its a bit like rubbing your tummy and patting your head at the same time ;)
Thanks for posting that, best LZ cover I've heard, the voc, uke and stomp box were great. Hey isn't there a way to make a box? I recall seeing some vids. Anyone here made one?

I've done rhythm with a cajon with my foot but seem to have issues when I pick a melody, kind of like a dog whose ear you scratch and the leg starts moving. OK when strumming though.

Sean Kochel of Kochel Guitars makes them out of reclaimed wood. I got one from him a while back and, while I haven't used it in a performance, I have plugged it into a crappy little amp and it sounds AWESOME! I'm going to try it through my sound board into a PA tomorrow to see how THAT sounds...

they're only $45, too... and GORGEOUS!

the trick with stomp boxes is your amp...anybody can spend $5 and take ten minutes to drill a hole and solder up a piezo, but

if you dont have a good amp, its always gonna sound slappy or thin or cheap...you know, cuz it is cheap. They're basically all the same minus some fancy talk and maybe a gimmick to make the fancy talk sell you on it. I used to make mine with a volume control. I would look into http://www.handmademusicclubhouse.com/profile/TedCrocker cuz he's super cool and ALWAYS HIGH QUALITY.

I used to make them. I could have the same box sound like crap on a regular amp or sound really dope on a decent bass amp. I like a good combo amp, so you can get good bass and clean guitar sound, even run a pedals if you want
