Nice one, brother!

Thanks, Alan! Sandra saying "Yeah" at the end made it worthwhile, I think. Kind of like putting whip cream on a mud pie, LOL! I like all of the posts so far. It's great to see how many ways Waltzing Matilda can be sung and played.:D

Thanks for this great idea, Brian!

I wish I'd seen the "Official Title" before doing the credits for this one. Oh well, it's the song that counts ;)

This is a version I have written (in Catalan) for our local rambling group known as "Caminant per la Comarca" (Walking Round the County). It exhorts others in the town to join us on our healthy rambles through the area.

Plenty of Australian references here, apart from the tune. The Uke is Eugene's old TU5 Baritone and the Hat used to belong to Pabrizzer, who informs me it has been all around Australia!

LYRICS & Translation:

No et demano cada dia facis quinze quilòmetres;

TRANSLATION:

If you’re out of shape and you're spending too much time at home,
I’ve got the solution that will change your destiny!
As well as being healthy, it’s good for the soul!
Will you come walking through the county with me?

CHORUS:
Walking through the County! Walking through the County!
Will you come walking through the county with me?
Repeat Third line of each verse
Will you come walking through the County with me?

On top of the mountains the views are impressive,
We pass by lots of ruins as we walk the old paths.
The air is much fresher when you leave those four walls behind.
Will you come a walking.... CHORUS

I’m not asking you to walk 15 kilometres every day!
Once a month and only in the morning!
You’ll meet up with a gang who are out to really enjoy themselves!
Will you come walking through the County with me?

Just fantastic Berni.
And the invitation to ramble is so close to the original song (until it delves into stock theft, threat of incarceration and ultimately suicide and a singing ghost).
Top job!

You forgot the ghost.
Excellent job on the Catalan version!

I don't fingerpick often, but here's my attempt at it with Waltzing Matilda (a tune i often hum when my husband [an Englishman] is watching a cricket match between England and Australia - much to his annoyance! ;) )

Wow. That was a flawless performance. Note a note out of place. FANTASTIC!
Thanks for your classy contribution to this thread.

More people may see this terrific playing if you post it in the VIDEOS and LINKS section as well.

If I can summon up the bottle to put my 2 month's worth of uke playing and mediocre singing onto video, then I'll perhaps give it a blast later...... :D

Yeah! Come On!
And you could win a whole dollar!

LOL - now you've got me excited! :D I'll do some practising tonight and maybe put something up tomorrow when there's no-one in the house (the joys of working shifts!)

Here is my Rendition, I play it on my Firefly BanjoUke. I do tweak it a little after the first verse to get that old timey sound.

You put some life in the old song.
What a great version!
Loved the banjouke playing.
Really worth waiting for. Thanks.

I'm already having reservations about this - but what the heck!

Here is my first (maybe my last) YouTube clip of me singing and playing the uke - although you could argue that 'singing' and 'playing' is stretching it!

There's more than a few fluffs in this take, but it was probably the best of a number I've done this morning and I've ended up recording it off my iphone, as I couldn't get the laptop's webcam to work, so the sound is poor!

Be gentle...... :D
