What the Frankenstein’s monster… I just bought a gold label baritone Kamaka

Great pickup and love the dual color contrasting frankenstein haircut. Are the tuners installed at not-quite-symmetrical angles? I have a Martin where the previous owner (probably a shop on behalf of the owner) had Waverleys installed but not quite symmetrically. Doesn't impact function, and...

Sold Figured Koa Tenor, Vashon Island $250 plus shipping

Very cool instrument! And funny when you say "pono-ish" neck profile, and I know exactly what that means! Nice looking koa and fretboard bindings on this one. GLWS!

    Martin copies Kanile'a?

I like this spectral analysis chart with 6% more amplitude and 20% more sustain. Now I'd love it if someone could use that same machine and analysis to tell us if the ToneRite works and finally settle the debate!!

Help me deal with my extreme humidity levels?

This is also what I do. Two Bovedas have been recharging themselves with one Oasis humidifier in each case and balancing the whole ecosystem in each case. Just keep refilling the Oasis ones every once in a while. I've also just put Bovedas straight into distilled water, and don't think it was...

Price Drop M’s Craft MT-258 koa “Monstera” tenor ukulele

Great looking inlay on the headstock and love the subtle koa(?) binding. Beautiful koa throughout. It's a good thing I'm similarly stocked up on tenors, otherwise this one would be very tempting. GLWS!

    Martin Ukulele Owners Club

I've had this S1 from the forums for several years now, and was looking back at my 2023 acquisitions, and this 5K featured prominently. Growing, up in Hawaii, Kamaka was always the most classic ukulele brand, but after learning about Martin's history in ukulele (I had known them for their...

Sold Talsma Ditson 5K Koa Soprano (2022)

This instrument is a wonderful deal. If I hadn't recently acquired a Martin 5K, I'd be coming to meet you somewhere in Midtown for this one. GLWS!

    Multi-Instrument Tuners

Very interesting--I'm not sure I still fully understand why it is, but the 1.47 vs 1.50 finally helps me make sense of this. I have been using a Peterson StroboPlus HDC tuner which has "sweetener" tunings, and I've just always had mine set to ukulele...I personally can't tell if it's any better...

New Uke Day (NUD) Martin 5K Soprano Ukulele Review and Comparisons

Heritage of the Martin 5K Ukulele Growing up in Hawaii, Kamaka is the OG manufacturer. Everyone knows the pineapple ukulele with the pineapple sticker. Many of us played ukuleles donated by Kamaka in our elementary school classrooms. What I didn’t know until recently—and the fact that sparked...

New Uke Day (NUD) Martin 5K Soprano Ukulele Review and Comparisons

Entry Level vs Flagship: Martin 5K vs Martin 0XK Comparison Perhaps the more interesting comparison is against the entry level Martin 0XK. $5000 vs $300 MSRP – for the price of one 5K, you can have 16 0XKs. The two instruments cater to completely different segments, but it’s worth seeing what...

New Uke Day (NUD) Martin 5K Soprano Ukulele Review and Comparisons

Is the Martin 5K worth it? Today there are many 5K-style ukuleles made by a number of highly talented makers at varying price points—with wood that is just as nice. I have not had the chance to play any of those in person, but I suspect that they are just as good tonally as the examples coming...

New Uke Day (NUD) Martin 5K Soprano Ukulele Review and Comparisons

This new-to-me Martin 5K soprano is finally here! The first ukulele I ever learned on, back in the Aldrine-Guerrero-IAmHawaii.com days (right around when UU was first founded) was a Tangi soprano. Like many on the journey, I ended up favoring the tenor size and staying there. But the right...
