Pegheds require a reamer with a taper of either 3 or 5 degrees depending upon the model. UPTs only require a 3/8” drill. Both are pretty simple to install.
I have away my heat bender. I only use it occasionally but when I do I don’t want to have to wait all day for it to heat up. I use the pipe-in-a-vise and it’s ready to go in a minute.
Yeah, Mr Times is correct. That’s the original idea behind a rosette. I bind the inside of my soundholes which I like to do for aesthetic reasons but in theory should help to prevent any cracking there. I also add a couple of side splints for support.
Good looking bender Ken. BTW, Light bulbs (or heating lamps) work OK on easy to bend woods like mahogany. But for more demanding woods, koa for instance, heat blankets are far superior as they heat the wood instead of the mold.
Really nice. I made a couple of dozen coco ukes back in the 80s. Samoan coconuts were the biggest I could find but when I wanted something even bigger I’d epoxy 2 or 3 of them together. I like your tuner arrangement, never seen that before. Very cool!
I commented on that 10 years ago. I used to use Meguiare’s Carnuba wax. These days I’m thinking ceramic coatings, similar to what the auto detainers use. I know it;s 10X better than wax on cars as far as longevity goes so I’ll be trying it soon on my next batch of ukes. When it comes to...
