Why is the use of straps more contentious in the uke community than with other fretted instruments?

Everyone is entitled to their own craziness. In my opinion, if you fool around at first position on the couch the strap is optional. When I am at home with my vintage Martin soprano I don't use strap. But when I go on stage with a tenor with cord hanging from it, suddenly the strap becomes a...

Sure, I would love a set if it's not cost prohibitive for me. Please take a look and let me know. Thank you.

Do these look like they may be original tuners for the ukulele in the subject? Or at least period correct?

Mainland Ukes - are they really that good?

I play Mainland tenor Cedar/Rosewood as my go-to ukulele. I bought it second hand, but in mint condition, installed a good pickup in it and use it on stage. It sounds very good plugged in or unplugged. It's comfortable to use. The neck is a bit chuncky compare to most other ukes, but this may...

Thank you for a response. Here is an image, but I don't think it will help as tuners seem to be contemporary replacements. Speaking of which, I would love to find a set of original tuners if that's possible.

    Vintage Martin Style 0 dating

I recently obtained (almost by accident) a vintage Style 0 Martin soprano and I am trying to date it. I am aware the exact dating is unavailable due to absence of a serial number. I am also aware of basics: the uke has contemporary frets, thus it's post WWII production and the stamp inside...

    Vintage Martin Style 3

Thanks, I actully got a bit more info. Seller says it is a war-time production, therefore the wooden pegs. So, I guess I just need a confirmation that indeed Martin used wooden pegs on ukes during a WWII.

Need some guidance with vintage Kamaka

So the ukulele arrived yesterday and went right back to seller this morning... In his ad the seller mentioned two broken tuners and a back crack with a slight separation. What he failed to mention (or accurately photograph) is two more smaller cracks in the back and thee pretty visible open...

Need some guidance with vintage Kamaka

Thanks everyone for a lot of useful information! I am a believer in keeping vintage instruments as original as possible thus hoping to find original used or NOS tuners. As far as precision of tuning I am not very concern. I have 1920's Martin Soprano with original wooden pegs and it tunes just...

It needs some work which I am pretty confident I can do. But it also needs replacement tuners. Please see an image in the attachment. Two...
