Loved music all my life (that's over half a century - eek) and finally decided to learn an instrument I can sing to. Never too old.

I work in a school and the music teacher decided to buy a class set of Uke's for elementary students. I was inspired to learn too. I purchased an entry level Leho Concert Uke. March of 2019. I've been playing everyday since. YouTube has been a great resource as there are no Uke groups in my town.

A friend suggest Ukulele Underground and I'm hooked!

Hi BC Island Girl,
Welcome to the UU Forum! I lived in Vancouver many years ago. My brother is still in there, and we have relatives on Vancouver Island. It's one of my most favorite places in the world.

Anyway, I wanted let you know about this upcoming uke event in Nanaimo:
http://nanaimoukulelefestival.ca/

And also check out this site. If you scroll down a bit, you'll see a list of uke groups for Vancouver Island North and South. Don't know how current the info is, but at the very least, it should give you some leads on where to find other uke enthusiasts on the Island.

Good luck!

HI, BC Island Gal,

Your story is similar to mine, in that I was in my fifties when fate thrust a ukulele into my hands, and I started strumming and singing. That was more than twenty-five years ago, and I'm still at it.

Welcome to UU. You will find a lot of interesting stuff here.

John Colter.

Welcome.

You live on a great island in a great Country.

Hi Jan!
I’m already signed up for the festival and will be attending a couple workshops. Looking forward to learning some new stuff. Some coworkers are looking to join in as well!

We be Jammin

Welcome to UU from your neighbor to the south - Portland!
