The harsh sound seems to be coming from the saddle. I do have the action at the nut a little too low, but I think the problem is at the saddle...I will try that first and see what happens. Thanks!

And if in your practice you place the heating blanket down first, I would reduce the size of the form by the thickness of the heating blanket + the wood being bent.
For my 1st uke, I used the Hana Lima plans but modified them to use a bolt on neck.

My last purchase was in 2015 and I got 12 rods...

Beau is there anything supporting the free end of the last 3 frets? Can't tell from the pictures. I can't imagine that last fret being able to support any real amount of pressure if it wasn't...
