Here are some images of a mold I used for a similarly shaped uke. I used a heat gun & heated the mold thru the holes on the bottom of the mold....

The taller the shim, the less of the original saddle will remain in the slot on the bridge. If not enough of the saddle is in the bridge, the saddle will slant twards the peg head when the strings...

When traveling & space is at a premium, I bring something like the "Peanut" solid body type instrument. They don't take up much room, don't weigh much, & are not fragile. If I don't end up playing...
I have played laminate guitars made of different woods, same body size, same builder, and they sounded different. I think it depends on the laminates. In this case each guitar was made of laminates...
