It was the first day that I had time to start to really explore my new Mike Pereira electric Uke and to see how it works with my current EFX pedals. Rufus always like to listen to me when I ad lib.
I tell you Kenn, after about a decade of only playing classical guitar strings on my instruments these steels feel strange. Happily it’s so well made and the action is so good that I don’t see that as a problem. I see the first task as exploring how I will approach attacking the strings. Time to...
Your comments about the amps are very interesting. Thanks! I have 2 acoustic amps (a Roland AC33 & ZT Acoustic) and a ZT Lunchbox mini and have been on a journey buying/replacing the pedals on my board. You’re right though that this instrument might need it’s own additions. This is the largest...
The two volume pots are push pull coil splitting...pushed down they are humbuckers using both coils on the pickup and pulled up splits to just using a single coil, which is a weaker signal but more like a fender tele.
As in the guitar universe there are solid bodied, semi-hollow bodied electric Ukes. They each have a different sound. In no way can an instrument like this be used acoustically. There is just not enough of a sound chamber. This is my first electric anything. I’ve played acoustic instruments...
This beauty finally arrived. I was impressed by how quickly USPS got it to Sydney but disappointed by how long Auspost took to get it to Perth.
Anyway…..
It was worth the wait.
Emailed Mike yesterday:
Mike,
Just a quick note to inform you that your most beautiful instrument arrived today in...
I’ve always had trouble with barre chords until I started using the technique of classical guitarists. It’s a issue of geometry not strength. Although having said that a finger strengthening device will help build strength in your ring and small fingers.
Although I could not assign a number to how much easier it is for me to play a radius fretboard (I’m about to turn 77), for the past 8 years I have only purchased/commissioned Ukes with them.
Having commissioned 3 build’s from Allen, I know that your review is accurate because that’s the way I felt when I first received mine. Congratulations! I know that it will give you joy every time you play it.
Yes, common to find a reverb and a chorus effect on an amp but they won’t have as much variation as if you have on an external pedal. For those that don’t need that the EFX circuits on your amp will do the trick and save you some money.
Yes, have and had some TC electronics pedals. I have a trichorus, a Ditto looper and a poly tune. All very good. I had a subup octaver but traded it for an Electro Harmonix mini POG octaver, which, IMO, tracks the Uke strings better.
