I didn't mean to lose Stu from my list! His UkuleleZen channel was one of my absolute keys to getting started. His insights that you'll have an easier time if you breathe and relax, squeeze LESS hard to make barre chords, and all the rest -- huge. He's also done some of my favorite tutorials...

Not to put too fine a point on it, but if you're missing out on Ukulele Underground, you're missing out! Both Matt Dahlberg and @4stringboy (Sammy Turton) mentioned on this thread (as well they should be! I follow both!) will tell you very directly how much they owe to UU co-founder and lead...

    what are you reading?

Talk about life-affirming! Alas, unfilmable for American audiences, but one of the most shockingly uplifting endings that you'll never see coming. Absolutely blown away. And while the book's version of the ending was even LESS filmable in 1940 than it would be today, the movie as a whole is...

    what are you reading?

I'll ever-so-slightly disagree, in that I'd say he's a life-affirming misanthrope. :ROFLMAO: Life yes, people, not necessarily. LOL As a life-affirming misanthrope myself, I find this quite relatable. ☺️ I love that movie, which also incorporates some story lines from Cannery Row's sequel...

New Is there a "cancel" option for replies and or private convos?

That's me soooo often! I wish that those kinds of edits generated new notifications. "Read it now! It's better!" 🤣

New Is there a "cancel" option for replies and or private convos?

I've mentioned before that I've worked in online forums for 35 years. One of the handiest tools I've encountered is a standalone word document. LOL There's some stuff I've needed to say over the years that I didn't even want the cat walking across my keyboard accidentally posting. :ROFLMAO...

New Is there a "cancel" option for replies and or private convos?

Unlimited for both editing and deleting. Please note that deleting the first post in a thread will delete the whole thread, which is often going to frustrate folks downthread who may have put considerable effort into a reply, so in general, much better to edit a first post in a thread than...

New Is there a "cancel" option for replies and or private convos?

I've expanded the time limit to 60 minutes, which appears to work regardless of whether the other person has read it. For me, it's more about typos. I'd hate to leave one of 'em out there forever LOL but sure, to get back to @Eggs_n_Ham's question, you could edit your "private conversation"...

Are long right-hand fingernails *really* necessary for fingerstyle?

Ha! I should have thought of that! Simply from the sparkling tone, I'd have bet any amount of money that you're padding rather than fingernailing. Like you, I'm very fond of the Uke Logic Soft Tension, and those really reward a gentler touch. I have some Aquila nylons that are much better for...

New Uke Day (NUD) NUD: Flight Fireball

Yes, yes, yes! Our very own @4stringboy is a fingerstyle master and Flight artist who has posted a bazillion (give or take) fingerstyle pieces composed and performed on Fireball, including this one, which was one of the ones that first pointed me to him: Vasko at Ukulele Cheats does both...

    Throwback "September"

I agree, one of the very best you've recorded yet! That's a tough one, and you really made it sound smooth! And I'm crazy about your arrangement! It's not only a more humane pace, it's easier to get into as a song. Maurice should have done it the way you did in the first place. 🤣

Are long right-hand fingernails *really* necessary for fingerstyle?

I was thinking about posting a video of that song, but I posted the James Taylor instead...so I'll post this now. :ROFLMAO: Joe has been a legend in the Texas music scene since 1970, and you can find a bunch of versions of this song. My favorite is the opening track of his 1981 album Live...

A Song About the Fall Season (No Youtube - Yes Bandcamp)

Howdy @direnzo! Thanks for joining! I took the liberty of editing your post a bit to include the Soundcloud link in the post. That's a feature I just added a couple of weeks ago, and folks are still finding it! All you (or anyone else) need(s) to do is just paste the URL in the post, and we'll...

Are long right-hand fingernails *really* necessary for fingerstyle?

+1!!!!! Times a million!!!!! I'm pretty good at growing long, solid nails, but I HATE how they sound. Hate, hate, hate. So after keeping them long for like a year, I'm back to keeping them short, and using my fingertips. There are definitely folks who use fingerpicks, especially for the thumb...

There's a way to do it while plugged in, but I assume that there's a special rig involved. :ROFLMAO:

New Why prior approval before posting?

Howdy Donna, and welcome! We're very happy to have you here! You already know that you have many fans in our midst. :) Yes, approvals for the first handful of posts for new accounts. You wouldn't know it to look -- because the system works -- but for every new account from a real person like...

Anyone played or heard a uke with Kasha bracing

Stu Fuchs at Ukulele Zen plays a custom Brian Griffin with kasha bracing. He interviewed Brian a couple of years ago, and they talked a LOT about the specifics of kasha bracing. Take a look!

Holy crap. Such a beautiful warm instrument. (Brittni Paiva Kanilea)

I don't think that's it, at least for Brittni. She's told the story. Had been playing Kamaka, moved to Anuenue, and had no intention of switching...until she had a spot of bother and needed to borrow an ukulele, which turned out to be Sarah Maisel's custom Kanile'a! Brittni flipped her wig...
