    Sold 'OLI MANGO BARITONE (L1-BMG 0178) 2024 - Gloss

Hey ZJS! I am well aware that I need another ukulele like I need a hole in my head, but I’m sorely tempted. I’m curious about a couple of things. Why are you selling it? It couldn’t be that old or played in, could it? Also, did you just tune the stock Aho strings to GCEA? I believe the current...

What is an unpopular/controversial opinion you have regarding the ukulele?

Wait…..it almost sounds as though you’re implying Koaloha might start making baritones. Can such a thing be?

What is an unpopular/controversial opinion you have regarding the ukulele?

His pronunciation sounded like a Japanese pronunciation.

What is an unpopular/controversial opinion you have regarding the ukulele?

We should bash the British! Have you heard how the British completely mangled Norman French so that now we have a new language we call “English”?!? Outrageous!

What is an unpopular/controversial opinion you have regarding the ukulele?

100% in agreement. Historically, destroying native languages lead to the destruction of those cultures.

What is an unpopular/controversial opinion you have regarding the ukulele?

One of the many reasons I like TUS is that they generally include string spacing in their specs as well as nut width. Very useful information.

What is an unpopular/controversial opinion you have regarding the ukulele?

I’m a little late to this particular dance, but who here wouldn’t just love to play (or have) a Koaloha baritone!

Sold Kelali Baritone - redwood and walnut

Beautiful ukulele! I love both my Kelalis (tenor and baritone). Amazing ukes for easily half of what they’re worth. Just out of curiosity, what is your “grail” ukulele? I’m expecting my new ‘Oli baritone any day now otherwise I would have probably already bought this one from you. GLWS!

    Side sound port

That’s a good point about the lining being a potential stress riser. And it looks good too the way you do it.

    Side sound port

I had in mind that braces on both sides of the port would at the very least prevent any possible cracks in the side from propagating. Probably not a bad idea for deep bodies in general anyway. That’s some good looking sycamore by the way!

    Side sound port

Thanks for the inside view. Wow - Spanish heel and Kasha bracing. I bet it’s going to sound great. And gluing all the peones! That a lot of work. Nice job!

    Thank you Jim!

    Side sound port

Did you orient it with the grain perpendicular to or parallel to the grain of the side? Sorry for all the questions - I’m just curious about these intricacies of building.

    Side sound port

Do you usually make ukes with a Spanish heel? And what do you use to reinforce the port?
  18. PauoaPoiDog

    Side sound port

Thanks for the update Jim. Living Water strings are some of my favorites. I’m just learning a few things before I embark on making my own but it seems to me that you would want to make a side sound port after you’ve bent the sides at least. You could add a veneer reinforcement or small braces to...

    Side sound port

That looks great Jim! Especially for your first try. I’ve been toying with the idea of modifying a couple of my less expensive ukes myself. Are you going to add a sound port to the torrified spruce/rosewood tenor you’re working on? Namely the one I’m hoping to buy? Nice work, Mark
