Buying Tips? Lanikai SPS-S or Ohana SK-50MG

Thanks for your feedback, I really want a new tenor, I found it as the best size, but I enjoy the three sizes. If this one was a tenor i had bought it without hesitation... the reason to buy it is to try different tonewoods... but the size. I'm trying to find a good reason to buy it without a...

Buying Tips? Lanikai SPS-S or Ohana SK-50MG

Yes, I read here in UU, that many appreciate the wider nut of Lanikai Ukes... Actually, my Lanikai Soprano has a wider nut than my Ohana CK-20 concert and Kala PWT tenor! But i don't know yet which one is better for me... at the moment i can play with all of them! Thanks for your advice!

Buying Tips? Lanikai SPS-S or Ohana SK-50MG

Hope that my english is not barrier! 🙃 Yes, I totally understand that, as I'm a beginner in uke world, I have about 10 years of trying almost every electric guitar model that is around! Tone is totally subjetive.

Buying Tips? Lanikai SPS-S or Ohana SK-50MG

Thanks, the matter is that in Argentina, There aren't many options of ukes. Additionally, the prices of new ones are pretty expensive, but on the other hand, as the market is not important, you can find opportunities in the second hand market. Thanks for your advice!

Buying Tips? Lanikai SPS-S or Ohana SK-50MG

Hi folks! I have a Lanikai SPS-S (solid spruce top with laminate rosewood back and sizes), a really nice Uke. There is a good offer of a used Ohana SK-50MG, a solid cedar top with flamed mahogany back and size.. according to what I read here, it has a bigger body than an standard soprano... Do...

    Buying Tips? First Uke advise

After a while playing my 3 ukes, I enjoy playing all of them, but I feel that definitely the tenor is the most comfortable and easy to play. I went first for the Concert, looking to the perfect balance of size... but after playing the three sizes with the only one that I don't feel that is not...

Is tone affected by the type of wood used for the fretboard/neck?

Yes, the neck and fretboard wood or tonewood affect the tone. (My experience comes from guitar). Mahogany tends to sound warm focused on mid freqs, sapele sounds pretty similar to mahogany. The maple very used in guitars has more highend. Fretboards: ebony has a peak in highend, that gives more...

    Resisting the new uke temptation

Great experience!!! But note that each piece of wood sounds different, I cut a 13 ft mahogany plank in 4 for builiding guitars, all of them sounds different! you Can hear with the tone tap that the wood get trebler from an extreme to the other, or bassier, depending where did you start! A...

Definitely the tone is in the fingers (especially in plucked string musical instruments).

Buying Tips? Feedback about these ukes (Tenor, Concert and Soprano)?

Thanks again for your feedback. I'm experiencing the same you did. I like the bright, joyful sound of my Soprano (spruce top) but too tiny!!! I found the Tenor a great size, since I can put it in my lap and I don't need to hold it with my right arm, and of course of the room in the fretboard...
