I had an opportunity to get some billets of spalted Tamarind and was wondering if it is a suitable neck wood. The pieces are approx 20" x 2-1/4 x 2-1/4, so I thought I could get two necks out of each. I've never worked with Tamarind before, so any advice on shaping and finishing it would be greatly appreciated. Has anyone used this wood for a neck, or should I just turn some candlesticks with it?
I'm finally beginning to enjoy my retirement here in Texas, though I've yet to fully set up my shop as a complete kitchen tear-out and remodel was the first order of business in the new house. Once that's done, I expect to get back into building ukes with a passion. I even signed up for an adult education class so I can finally PLAY the dang things I love to build!
