What happened to my pictures?

Help! I went to view some old threads in where I posted photos and instead of the pictures, it reads "Attachment 1234" in red. When I click on the link (?), nothing comes up! What happened?

I don't know specifically, but I remember a few months back the forum was having a lot of problems, and once they were fixed, all picture attachments prior to the fix were gone. Unfortunately, those pictures appear to be lost for good.
