Do you name your uke?

Tried naming the ukes, but it didn't stick long.

so now it's "my soprano uke" and "my concert uke" and "my tenor."

I DID rename the Kala tenor that I"ve got, since it had such a nonsense bunch of alphabest for a name. It's a cedar top, lam acacia side/back; I call this model, "The LaSalle" since it's so sleek.

I recall discussions like this on photography forums. "Do you name your camera(s) / lens(es) / flash(es) / etc?" I currently possess (or am possessed by) 45 cameras, 245 lenses, 124 musical instruments (34 of them stringed), and numerous other tools, not to mention our artifact collections. I do not name them. That would be madness. And I could never remember all those names. I have enough trouble with a dozen cousins and a few sisters.

We nickname our vehicles -- the old Ford Explorer is Big Blue, the Nissan Murano is Baby Blue, the old Dodge Aspen wagon was Toots (color of a Tootsie-Roll), the white '69 Chevy pickup was Phantom, the Land Cruiser was Elsie (LC), the ancient Mobile Traveler housecar was Spud (the beer that made Boise famous), and the Coupe de Ville was That [expletive deleted] Money Pit.

We also have mountain bikes and recumbent bikes. We do not name them beyond Your BikeE and My BikeE and Your Trek and My Trek, just as we call our favorite tenor 'ukes Your Alvarez and My Kala. We have had several homes. We nickname them by their street names -- the Adrian, the Utah Trail, the Rio Vista, the Bonnie Brae, the Phillips.

Hmm, I see a trend. If the item in question encloses and contains us, like a vehicle or house, we give it a name. If not, we don't.

I don't name my ukuleles. I usually refer to them as "the Barron River tenor", the "Stagg concert", "the acacia tenor", or "the factory mahogany soprano". Hmm, I don't really seem to give other objects names either, except my computers, but that is just for networking purposes (I could name them Laptop-005 or Desktop-002, but I go for names of cat breeds).

No. And In don't call them her or she either.

Yes...I must admit, I do name my ukuleles. LOL A few are: Koko, Keoki, Malialani, Kauanoeanuhea, Melelani, Kapua, Kikeona... But when I am telling people which one I am playing I usually refer to the brand and size, ie KoAloha concert, Kamaka soprano, etc.

Since this has been reopened and I dont think I added to it before.

No I have not named a ukulele yet. I have named custom built tattoo machines or seriously reworked machines. I had one picked from various parts boxes and put together I called Old JYD or Junk Yard dog, when I reworked it I renamed it "BenWah".

I own a few 80's Hondas that Ive given nicknames, one I call Red the other The Black Bitch or simply The Bitch and one 87 Magna I bought from a guy who owned her for 16 years called her Scarlett I call her Scar'.

I have a red BC Rich Warlock from the 80's, an Aria Pro2 cardinal series bass and a Yamaha acoustic guitar for many years now that have no names. None of the multitude of ukuleles have a name either. Wait I lie I did at one point call my Bruce Wei tenor my Wei Wei but then she sang much nicer a year later. Hmmm my BW soprano was my little Brazilian girl, we have had a love hate relationship to this point. So I guess I do name ukuleles but only those from Vietnam.

hehe

They come pre-named, so I just refer to them by their make and/or model. i.e. "The T1K", The CK-38, etc..

Pono Acacia Tenor - Casey
Kimo Custom Tenor - Aces **

** I was playing "Let It Ride" at a local casino and hit 4 Aces. That's the only reason I could afford the uke :)

i don't name mine, but it seems like something i would do.

Only one of mine has a name. It is my 3K, named for it's late owner, Tom Norm Morrison, (Juneberry 78s). It just seems right to refer to it as Tom. I like the connection, but the others are identified by make and model. The 3K is also my favorite. I have named my motorcycles, hang gliders and boats in the past. It seems more personal and less like an inanimate object that way. BB King had Lucille, so it's cool enough for me.

Mine is simply called 'My wooden wife' and when we dance and sing together we go to a new magical place which i refer to as 'My wooden life'. Its very similar to a real marriage, i spent alot of money on her, we spend almost all our time together, we dance we sing, at times we get so frusrated with one another..some time she wines and annoys the f@#k out of me, when noones home i strum her really hard and fast and we're very loud ;)...but through good times, and the bad we love each other, we grow old together, and no matter how hard times get there's always a place for her in my arms next to my heart, or my lap is always there for her to rest on those long winter nights sat as one cuddled by the fire singing 'you and me' by Penny and the quarters at top of our little voices.

This is also probably why i don't have a 'real wife'....catch 22...meh.

I call my baritone "The Big Kahuna", not very original but appropriate.
