    The short grain on the one piece neck is no red herring if you have ever done repairs on guitars. Especially Gibsons. It's one of the most common repairs I do. On an ukulele it's probably not a problem. Most of the Gibsons with a busted off peg head have fallen off of a guitar stand and break somewhere around the nut. Not something that happens much to ukuleles.

    Thank you Michael for the real story on this attachment style instead of my speculative post... Weissgerber certainly build some different body shapes. Below is one that is really different:

    I mostly use the scarf joint with a stacked heel. I'll cut one piece necks if I'm using Spanish Cedar or I'm laminating a neck. I don't like the way a cedar neck looks with a scarf & stacked.
