I have a couple of inexpensive solid body ukes with wooden nuts and saddles.
Can wound strings (low G) cause excessive wear to the nut and saddle and should I be concerned?
Thankyou.

Metal wound strings will wear on the wood, but not severely, mostly when raising or lowering the tension. Best to use flat-wound, smooth, burnished, or whatever else the various manufacturers call them. The main reason they exist is for their "squeekless" attributes, but the reason they make less noise is the same reason they will be easier on your wooden nut and saddle. They have a smoother texture.
You also might contact Guadalupe string co, if you can get them to respond to you. They might be willing to make a nylon-wound custom string for your needs.

Since you used the word excessive, the answer is no.

I guess the only caveat is if you have a soft wood for the nut and saddle. I would think it would be a hardwood of sorts, maybe not ebony if the ukes are inexpensive, and that should hold up well enough.

String them, play them and have fun.
