Default custom CIGAR box UKULELE in the WORKS

hey all.. i just wanted to post up some photos and info on my "future" cigar box ukulele that is being crafted by Russ of Sonny Daze he does all his work by hand... and makes these ukes one at a time. i found him via ebay... and after watching his sound sample and talking with him i decided to pitch an idea.

my father passed away 9 years ago. he was a bombader on a B-29 in WWII and as a small child i can remember him showing me his WWII wings.. while he was young in WWII and never went on a actual bombing mission... he did tell me stories of his training. i always had a set of these wings around growing up. another thing about my father was that he loved to sing songs from the 30's and 40's and i can recall hearing him sing "it's not the pale moon that excites me.. that thrills and delights me... it's the nearness of you" and we often would look at the starts together... he would often pint out orions belt.

with these ideas in my mind... i made a sketch a few months after his death of a tatoo that i was going to get on my back.. i gave the sketch to a good friend and he did a computer graphic on his version of the wings, the moon, and the stars of orion. a few years later i took this artwork to a tatoo artiest and he came up with another working of this art sketch. see photo..

i never did get the tatoo but kept the artwork around... i had plans for making a sticker.. maybe a pickguard...until i found russ! wen i sent him the photos and asked if he could make a cigar box uke with this as the sound hole he sent me back this... which was a YES!

and thus we were off... i gave him the okay to start production... and for the past 3 weeks he has been working... this is not his main job, and he does this more for the love... and works at an artist pace..

this is the uke in stage 1...

    more to come...

Anyone can buy a uke. Some folks can make one for themselves. But to have an interesting instrument with a real story is something special. You will have something special. Nice collaboration with the builder.

The ukulele on his video sounds pretty decent, can't wait to hear what your's sound like. I like your sound hole shape, very cool.

    What a cool project.

(when I was growing up, "dead baby" jokes were all the rage.)
