Adding fretboard binding after the fact?

Hey guys could you answer a question please? Is it possible to add fretboard binding to a uke after the build is complete? Is that something you could take to a luthier and he would glue it on?

Most important, does it require sanding down the sides of the neck or some kind of structural change to the wood as is?

That's more than one q, sorry :)
 
If you have a luthier who wants to do it, it's possible. You'd have to pull the frets, route the sides of the fret=board, create and attach your new bindings, and re-fret the instrument. I'd call it a major project. But, it doesn't necessarily require any change to the neck.

Ah, I see. That is a major project.

That answers my questions. So if I want this feature, I'll buy a uke that already has it. Thanks for the info Steve!
