    I've found that whether or not the beatings commence is based upon the level of accumulated rage and thirst for blood of the angry hordes, which are occasionally (and unpredictably) swayed by Hive-Mind thinking...

    ...which is often influenced by the happening of the full moon every 21 days or so...
