I have a student that hangs out by my classroom most every free period. I always say hi and they just nod back. Today, she spoke with me and she was most definitely a he transitioning to she. Anyway, her voice is very deep and I was just wondering if hormone therapy changes that as well.

    Feeling ignorant and uninformed.
Hormones will deepen the voice of FtM, but will not raise the pitch for MtF. Light/high voices for MtF are an affectation.

Still not my first resource I guess. Old.
We used to play a game called "watch this". It goes "Watch This!" ... ask mom a random question ... mom knows everything, always.

My mom dominated all trivia games.

Guess they had to invent Google before she died.

Sometimes I see a shirt that says "who needs google, that's what my wife is for". That was my mom.

It's one reason why, for MtF transitions, starting puberty blockers is such a big deal.

I blame the internet actually. I type without thinking.

Writing gives me the time to think about what I'm writing and how I'm writing it.

Besides, you would be lost without my grammar to correct.

I was just informed that a student is suspended all week for making a threat against me. This student has special needs and I was told by his parents and his support team that I was to be hard on him and keep strict boundaries so he could learn how to behave in college. This poor kid thinks we should be buddies and pal around and I spent the first month of school explaining that he is a student and I am the teacher and that our relationship doesn’t extend beyond that. And then he thought he’d start to “tease” me the way friends do. He’ll chant my name randomly in the middle of class and also blurt out inappropriate words/topics. For the last month when he comes in during tutorial or my brunch I let him stay until he acts inappropriately and then I ask him to leave my class until he can behave appropriately. He will pace outside my door chanting my name and saying inappropriate (but not vulgar) things. Lately, the resource specialist who comes with him to class every day will just remove him when he starts. I’m told that yesterday, after being removed from my class he threatened to beat me up because I won’t be his friend.

Honestly I think the school is suspending him to put pressure on the parents. The school’s point of view is that he isn’t ready to be “mainstreamed” like the parents pushed for. He really isn’t ready. I was told he’s latched onto other teachers in the past and demonstrated the same actions, but I’m the first one he threatened to harm.

The principal just dropped by my room to ask if I felt scared or uncomfortable.

“I didn’t until you suspended him and now he’ll blame me.”
Other news from the land of special needs kids. . .

I'm sporting a fresh black eye because RL Kid slugged me yesterday. OK. But we are driving up to the Bay Area for my brother's Really Big Number birthday celebration. I hate that I'm going to have to explain it a lot and I don't want to throw RL Kid under the bus.

So the next prank on Todd, my most frequent victim these days, is shaping up. (He is the one for whom I hid 58 miniature rubber ducks all around his office.)

I will be decorating his office with "Happy 60th Birthday!" stuff. Banner, balloons, streamers.

    He's in his mid-50s.

    It's nowhere near his birthday.

The rest of the building doesn't know that.

    I can't wait.
