All four kids came over today. The SIL was sick and the almost SIL was hung over from a great NYE party last night, so it was just the 6 of us. We had a really great day. I went nuts making way too much food. We watched the Rose parade, played cards, worked on a jigsaw puzzle, and just had a wonderful time visiting.

A friend came over yesterday, and the three of us played "Screw Your Neighbor" (relax, it's a card game!), and "Hand and Foot".

We also like Euchre and cribbage....

Shirley is gathering up the Christmas decorations etc. to put them away. Storage is on the second floor. Lots of containers going up and down the stairs.

Just having any form of salmon in the house would taint the rest for me...otherwise it sounds lovely!

We take down the massive tree on New Year's Day. It's an all-day process, as each ornament has its own little nest or box in the storage bins and Sheryl is the only one who knows where they all go. So the day consists of her calling out things like, "we need five puffy blue Ikea hearts!" and the hunt is on. There are too many ornaments to strip the tree and then sort them into their containers, so this laborious process is what has evolved to reduce breakage and ensure everything goes in its place. Usually about 3 hours into the process she will announce that it's time to just remove the remaining ornaments, place the non breakables on couch A, breakables on the dining room table, completed boxes on couch B, and finally lights on the blue chair. Once everything is off she will happily sort ornaments for the next couple hours. When all else is done we take the tree down, remove the stand, get the tree outside, and rearrange the furniture to its non-Christmas configuration.

    Phew!

I pray RLK didn't perform the closer inspection via taste test.
