SOTU 334 Songs For Lesley (barefootgypsy)

Thank you Del. I was just getting ready to link that for him.

TCK, I understand exactly how you feel. It’s the reason for this season. Here are some feel good songs but they may not be what your looking for.

Skinamarinkadink
Bear necessities
Marzidots

What about the song Martin sings with Leslie in the vid on the OP, All Of Me?

Loads of tin pan ally songs are upbeat and fun.

I will except whatever you people feel like bringing. If it feels good bring it. It’s all about the gesture. Love and hope and support!

Anyone else with suggestions please list them :)

Edit: I forgot about Singing In The Rain

Since my next song is a little pensive you should watch this first.
You know we hate folding those fitted sheets and this is just such a simple way...

btw I'd have a LOT of trouble getting up after that fold.

Lots of people thinking about you this week Lesley - I sure hope you can feel it.
Not overly happy but it is what came out when I picked up the uke....

Thanks for that pa. Had me laughing out loud :biglaugh:

According to science, the best feel-good top 10 are -

10. Katrina & The Waves - Walking on Sunshine

9. Gloria Gaynor - I Will Survive

8. Jon Bon Jovi - Living on a Prayer

7. Cyndi Lauper - Girls Just Wanna Have Fun

6. The Monkees - I'm A Believer

5. Survivor - Eye of the Tiger

4. Billie Joel - Uptown Girl

3. The Beach Boys - Good Vibrations

2. Abba - Dancing Queen

1. Queen - Don't Stop Me Now

I am a bit conflicted about posting this song as to whether it is appropriate or not.
Although originally a Kate Rusby love song, the words may take on a new meaning
in light of this weeks theme, but in submitting it I hope it gives some crumb of comfort.
When an illness strikes then depending on how serious it is we all wonder who will
care for us now. The old marriage vows stated "in sickness and in health" and I feel
that there is much consolation if that promise is upheld.

A little song of encouragement, written more than 100 years ago by Jerome Kern and now played on my Gypsy Jazz guitar and on my tenor uke tuned CGDA:
Look for the Silver Lining

SOTU 334 - DANCE LIKE A GYPSY (Original Song by Dennis Danner)

Evelyn and I hope this bouncy ditty helps lift your spirits Lesley, and hopefully will give the rest of us, "Dancing Seasonista Gypsies" something they will want to sing along to.

The audio is a bit over-driven, but I'm still at the bottom on the MacBook learning curve. Evelyn's drumset is her newest toy for her upcoming birthday, and this is the first time we've tried recording with it! I think it adds a lot for the dancing gypsy feel I hoped to capture. I also overdubbed my Kala acacia tenor to add some "gypsy jangle" to my more somber baritone. Hope you like it!

Here's one I used to play all the time that I've dusted off. Had to dial the vocals down a bit as it's pick up time at the school behind our house but I like the result.

Not a particularly happy choon but it always makes me happy when I play this or hear it on the ukulele...........from what I've read this is the song that got Lesley hooked onto the uke and the same for myself so we've got a mutual love for this one.

“The measure of who we are is what we do with what we have.” – Vince Lombardi. God bless ya Lesley, keep positive XX

Here is my original for Lesley.

In case one aspect of the song isn't obvious here are the lyrics:

Let your hope be your guide
Every time you face a test
Stay the course and keep strong
Let your body know what's best
Every challenge that you face
Your will can rise to meet it
For you are a special one
One determined to beat it.

When the black dog is sniffing
Know your friends will be with you
Every time you feel down
Stay determined to come through.
Be the person we love
Always looking on the bright side
Ready for each brand new day
Eager for every joy ride.

Far reaching is your love
Over mountains, crossing oceans,
Overcoming barriers
Tendering your emotions
Give us the gift of your songs
Yield and bend to the rhythm
Place your trust in your muse
Say your spirit will not give in.
Yes, may your spirit never falter.

Just a suggestion for those struggling to think of a song, If you have to think about it then don't do it, If something pops into your head for no reason at all then just do it as it's coming from the right place.

Well said Mark!

I don't know Lesley, but before I joined the Seasons I listened to this song of her, and I loved it immediately. I was taken by how sweet, sentimental and genuine it was. Not sure I got all the lyrics exactly right, but I tried. I also decided to keep my first take here pretty much no matter how it came out, so here it is. This is an extraordinary song Lesley!

Here's another one I'm bringing just because I like singing it. Defending school kids again

Season 334. "Groovin'" - A Collaboration with Mezcalero and Turtledrum

Written by Felix Cavaliere and Eddie Brigati and recorded by the Young Rascals (1967).

Lead vocal, tenor ukulele, vid prod. - Linda

Lesley, Kevin and I were hoping that our songanddancedaisy and barefootgypsy might join us in remembering that great feeling of just ....... groovin' on a Sunday afternoon. ;)

The Copper Family of Rottingdean in Sussex are very important in English Folk Music. By starting to write down the family's songs in the late nineteenth century they left us a wonderful legacy of songs. They were "discovered" by the BBC in the 1930s and successive generations have continued to perform their songs. They have quite a few positive songs in their repertoire. Here is one of them. I can't really do it justice. I need a room full of people joining in, especially in the refrain in the middle of each verse. Accompanied with my Flea because it's a happy uke.

The pictures are of knitted items made for a charity challenge by a knitting group my wife used to belong to but "played around with".

Here is Lesley's wonderful song - Troubadour. I've had it ready to go for a couple of days but I know that Big Daddy Uker is working on it and wanted his to be first.
It is a wonderful song written by a Troubadour Lesley!

This song is really special and pabrizzers cover is exceptional. I would love to see lots of covers of this beautiful tune that Leslie wrote.

If you're stuck, then bring this one! If your not stuck, bring this one :)

Thanks pa for sharing this and for sharing what you've worked out.
BDU, I hope you don't mind!

Here is Lesley's version in F https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DabAlLKHodw&frags=pl,wn

Intro Bb C7 Dm
F Bb F
Troubadour sing me a song
Bb F Dm C7
Sing me up a story of how he done her wrong
Bb F A7 Dm
Find a haunting melody to take the blues away
Bb C7 Dm
Just a song to get me through the day

F Gm7 F
A song to lift the world from my shoulders
Dm Gm C
A song to warm a world that’s grown colder
Bb F A7 Dm
Troubadour you have a store of magic in your mind
Gm7 C7 Dm

Something happened to my world and left me with a frown
Come and weave your magic to take the blues away
Just a song to get me through the day

Little song but chock full of good vibes for you Lesley.
It's in waltz time - I'll tread all over your toes - but I'm up for a dance if you are....
