I find huge difficulty remembering songs - so rather than an iPad on a stand I thought to attach a clip to my uke so that as I glance down I can see the cheat sheet along the top side, hidden from the fans (!???)

Works in 7 point, for me on 10cm x 5cm paper stuck with sellotape...but a clip would be quicker to swap sheets over.

Figured that something hooking into the sound hole might have been invented...

It could be a bungee cord from the bottom of the sound hole, round the back and then into the top of the sound hole - the elasticity would hold the paper in place...somebody clever out there?

Here's what I use. Insulation foam, rectangular cutout for head, slit for card.
Cheers,
R

There are devices already made. I used to have a small clear plastic clip arm fully adjustable but for the life of me I can't find it online. I did find a camera headstock mount for $20 on Amazon that could be modified to hold music.

Since I already wear glasses, I'd like to see a "heads up" display on my lens so that as I appear to be engaging with my audience I'm also reading the lyrics and chords. Surely the technology exists to do this.

Absolutely. Googling it now!
Otherwise a little tray that clips on top of the uke that is extendable. So the sheet can stick out a little over the strings to save having to peer directly down as I first suggested.
Trying to think what the little tray would be used for so I can find one.

How about a marching band instrument lyre that straps to your wrist like this one? https://www.guitarcenter.com/Conn/1759-Flute-Wrist-Lyre.gc

As you know, expressing a problem itself can lead to a solution.
I find that a simple iphone holder, which fits on tripods, actually clips across my uke (a tenor) and holds it, instead of the phone. Then I can slip my cheat sheet beneath it to be held.
Or a stick on magnet and a piece of card with a paperclip to hold the cheat sheet to.
The Lyre head looks the job and could be held on with a magnet too.
Job done. Thanks all.

Seriously? An iPad is far less obtrusive for both you and your audience. Hanging all that off the peg head of the instrument is going to mean the audience's attention is going to be on your "solution." IMHO :)

The one place I can use some kind of holder on my bass uke is for the hospital gigs where we roam from room to room and are not allowed to put anything on the floor or anywhere. I prefer not to be looking at something hanging from my instrument and I do memorize most of the tunes, but I see a value in having a holder at times.

So this is the iphone holder that sits atop a little tripod. It stretches to fit my iphone - and also fits my uke where the fretboard meets the body, so I am glancing down at the fretboard, as one does and can also see the cheat sheet or lyrics as you wish.
However a simple magnetic disc on the inside top wall of the uke body and another on the outside will stay there (no glue) - and the crib sheet held in a little paperclip sits there! Easy to remove and swap for another song, and not really that visible. I’m happy, anyway!
