This season, we’ll celebrate music by songwriters and performers who used “Doc” or “Merle” as their stage names.
Fair game — any songs the artists performed, not only the ones they wrote.
The obvious choices here are Arthel “Doc” Watson and his son Eddy “Merle” Watson, about whom I’ve bloviated (affectionately) many times. Also the great Merle Haggard.
There are other easy picks: Doc Pomus, Doc Cheatham, Merle Travis, Merle Kilgore, etc.
However, NO “Doctors” (Dr. John, Dr. Feelgood) and no “Meryls” (sorry, Meryl Streep).
If you need a ruling from the chair about entering music from a particular artist, PM me or post on the thread.
RULES:
1) Standard start/stop time applies
2) 5-song limit
3) The entry must be new to Season 340 and indicated somewhere on the video or the post
4) Ukulele must be prominent, but multi tracking is fine
5) Collaborations welcome!
Be sure to comment on others’ contributions
Originals: Welcome and should have something to do with the theme, such as — parent/child relationships, the Blue Ridge Mountains (Watsons), Oklahoma or Central California (Haggard), a musician’s life, etc.
PRIZES: Yes! Most likely Doc Watson or Merle Haggard CDs.
Mostly, have fun and enjoy this great music and each other!
AND REMEMBER, Del's Season 339 continues for another 18 hours or so, so please post and comment there!
