I’m selecting a wood set for a sycamore build. These are my top five choices. Curious to see what folks like. My favorites are #3-5.

Number 3 for me, I love the interesting pattern in the middle. When finish is applied it will have a 3D holographic effect

Yep, 3 for me. I almost bought some Sycamore this week for a future uke build, but I'm trying to make myself focus on one at a time, and not stockpile any more wood.

I love #3. That pattern is mesmerizing .

2 or 3 because for some reason they remind me of sycamore before it's chopped down and planed.

I chose 5 because I really like the skunk stripe, plus the flame grain runs all over. The more figuring, the more I like it.

8 tenor cutaway ukes, 5 acoustic bass ukes, 9 solid body bass ukes, 7 mini electric bass guitars

I don't love any of them (sorry), but 3,4 or 5 if I had to pick. Maybe 4 or 5 over 3.

I don't like how strong the vertical line looks in #3, it's less noticeable in the others.

Yup, I’ll second that motion

I had hard time choosing between #3 & #5. So, I wisely asked my wife, a quilter with excellent sense of color and shape. Out of an even larger assortment of Sycamore wood sets she preferred #3 with #5 a close second.

Though I agree with your wife, maybe it's time To ask the builder to show you a couple of more sets?

I’m satisfied in what Cary has shown me as “available” Sycamore wood sets at Mya-moe. He showed me all the baritone sets he has (about 15 different sets). They compare well to the variety in their gallery of previously built Sycamore ukes. Several of figured Sycamore sets were just purchased.
