After covering one of Pa's cracking blues tunes, I was hoping to cover one of BEVOMU's (the one about Serveran). If I get time on Sunday after our midday gig, I'll try and record it.
I'd also love to have done something by a few others, most notably Jon Duncan - our leading songwriter here, surely.
Anyway, tomorrow (Sunday) me and other members of the "Intergenerational Brigade" have a gig at the Museum of the Spanish Republican Air Force in Santa Margarida i els Monjos.
As most of our songs about the Spanish Civil War are about land based forces, I felt we needed a song that dealt with those brave lads who flew up to face superior odds in their little Russian Poliakov I-16s - nicknamed "moscas" ("flies") due to their manoeuvrability in the air. So, I wrote one this week and had my daughter, Jana (and my wife, Carmen) ensure that the Catalan lyrics made sense and were largely grammatically correct.
I have put the subtitles up in Catalan, but in the description you will find an English translation of the song.
It has been a great week, this week. May I offer special thanks to all of those who have covered some of my songs. There is no greater tribute to a songwriter than singing one of their songs. My heartfelt gratitude to you.
Meanwhile, here is "El Ball de les Mosques" (The Dance of the Flies)
