    Missed opportunity to assemble a completely denim outfit and add some
    Props to this Dave Rawlings song, but we knocked it out for you in our regular garb which I hope is suitable.

It took me a moment, and then I realised he had been playing at our local music festival at the weekend,...and I missed him. That was a bit of a blow, but I am happy to say this was counter-acted by our local choir, of which I am a member (hard to believe isn't it), sharing the main stage at the festival with Courtney Barnett (I know!).
    We had a blast doing some backing vocals to a few songs for the world premier live performance of Gurrumul's Djarimirri (Child of the Rainbow) album with a 16 piece orchestra from the Australian National Academy of Music, and Courtney played guitar on one of the tracks we accompanied.

    Here's a 2014 song written by one of my favorite songwriters.
    Check out the beautiful original here.

    an original song for the season.
    Franz Marc's 'Young Boy with a Lamb' (1911)
    is a painting that has always haunted me.
    so life affirming and yet so utterly helpless.
    some unfiltered reflections I put to music today.

    YOUNG BOY WITH A LAMB

    Franz Marc made a painting
    of a young boy holding a lamb,
    high above a wild river flowing,
    white water curling first about his ankles,
    up to his waist as he sank lower and lower.
    It was over.

    An image of love, of self sacrifice,
    of futility; debts to pay the price;
    some things you just can't stand against -
    the dark heart of indiscriminant nature;
    the barbs of fallen man, the hand of God.
    The reaper and the sower;
    who's gonna win out of that one when it's over?

    Sometimes I still think about that boy
    standing against the heavy pulse of that river,
    trying to save a helpless animal,
    both of them sinking.
    Water surging like time itself.
    Didn't God say He'd be with us in the storm?
    And I wonder who drowned first
    now that it's over...

    Number 3 from me meant looking at John's list. The Decemberists provided quite the musical journey for me yesterday, one I think I'll be returning to.

    This one appears to be from their latest album, released this year.

    "Even on a cloudy day, I'll keep my eyes fixed on the sun"

    "But I heard voices, Not in the head, out in the air, they called to me. Through record speakers, through thick and thin, they found a shelter, beneath my skin"

    Hello, John! Took me ages to find something that I could do, then I heard this one, which is really rather lovely (although not, necessarily, my version)! Hope to be able to do another this week, but may need to resort to middle-of-the-night uploading as the month's Internet allowance is getting woefully low and it doesn't renew till next Wednesday.

    Ahoy
    The first song I thought of was a song from the Sigur Rós album 'Ágćtis Byrjun', which Rolling Stone Magazine classifies as one of the great albums of the 2000s, but that album was released in Iceland in 1999 but abroad in 2000 (UK) and 2001 (US).
    so...
    here is "I Want to Be the Boy to Warm Your Mother's Heart" by The White Stripes from the year 2003
