Hello,

I have a Toby Channell tenor carved Jazz Uke for sale. I bought this several years back from the original owner and no longer play...

This one is called the "Simcik" and was made in summer 2012. It was the sixteenth jazz box uke made by Toby confirmed by him in an email to me at the time I purchased the instrument... It was commissioned by a gentleman named Terry Simcik in California and has a MiSi pick up installed - a first for a Jazz Uke made by Toby. It also includes a very tough "coffin" case. The Uke has an X braced spruce top and mahogany back, neck and ribs and I think all the appointments are rosewood.

Two years ago the top developed a crack and I had it repaired by a professional Luthier in Louisville, KY. Top is stable.

Make me a fair offer...

Send me your email address if interested and I can email hi-res pics..

Thanks.

"Make an offer" is a tough one. Looking online, his tenors sell for between $200 and $1,000. If you figure 75% of what you paid for it, that's a starting point.

That's a beautiful uke. As for posting hi-res pictures, you can post them on Google Photos or Flickr, and anyone can see them.

I wonder where you found the lower of these numbers, maybe it was a used one that was badly cracked? The starting price for a new Jazz Box Uke from Toby Chennell with an archtop and arched back such as the one featured here is now around $900 USD, running up to $1800 USD with all sorts of further appointments and features.

Good luck with the sale, Beatnik!

Sorry. My mistake. I Googled Toby Chennell Ukulele, and I got a page with pictures and prices. Looking again, I see that none of the pictures or prices refer to Toy Chennell. So much for Google. I guess it doesn't want to come up empty handed. There is a lot on YouTube and Facebook, but I didn't see any prices.

Greeting. I bought it off of the gentleman who commissioned it so I am the second owner.

Trying to add a couple more pics... will see if this works. Point of guitar pick points to crack repair. It is really hard to see but you can feel the slight rise in the wood top. The crack runs from the bottom of the Uke to about to the base of the bridge. It is more pronounced in the lower 2", invisible after the tail piece. It was a professional repair.

I think the strings on it are from the UK - Living Waters?

Scale length is 17"

I own two of Toby's archtops; a baritone and bass. I think the baritone went for around 1650.00. All the bells and whistles. I ordered an adjustable bridge to fine tune the action when needed. I use Southcoast HL-WB's on it now and will use T-Infeld CF35 and CF30 with Savarez Alliance for trebles. Pahoehoe's on the bass. I like a wound 3&4 so for a tenor I'd use T-Infeld CF30 and CF27 with fluro carbon Trebles.

May I ask: is there anything about the shape or set-up of a uke like this that makes it especially suited for jazz?
Is the action different?
It's way cool looking!

I've wondered this about LFDM ukes as well... are there functional differences inherent to the design?
