Favorite chords?

I'm a big fan of Major 7ths too:
FM7 as 5500 is a beauty, and G#M7 as 0343, as a way of getting back to G Major then G7 in the key of C
Also Cm6 as 0330 tickles me as a way of getting to D7 in key of G
Another ripper is C6 as 0453 as a substitute for C Major in Hawaiian songs - just slide that shape up one fret from 0342 to hear the palm trees swaying
Great to hear that other people get a kick out of certain chords and progressions - makes me feel less freaky!

One progression that is always a pleasure to play, and sounds great, is in "My Foolish Heart" arranged in Bb.

"(Gdim/0101) When you're (F/2010) lost in the (F6/2213) magic of a (F7/2313) kiss (F7+/2314)" - then to Bb for the start of the next verse.

Only small finger movements required, but a very satisfying feeling as they progress up the fret board.

ps. I had trouble pitching my voice to sing this line in isolation. If you start on an F for "When" - that nails it.

Because I play fingerstyle melodies I really like playing with an open G and/or C string intermittently and covering them to add a different dynamic.

I could figure out the actual chords, but I'll just give my shapes that I like to throw in...

C chord... stuff like 0-0-3-7, 0-4-3-3, 0-0-3-3, 0-0-8-7

G... 0-2-3-5, 0-7-7-10, probably not G, but 0-2-3-0 (D variant?) and 0-0-3-2

D... 0-2-2-0, 0-2-2-5, 0-6-5-5

F... 2-0-1-3, 0-0-1-0, probably not F, but it works for some things 0-5-5-7

Am... 0-4-5-3

I just start with a chord and work the melody, see if the range works and then improvise from closed chords when needed for whatever effect. It does make things easy.
