Hi everyone,
Nice to be here for present my work.
Like i said in my presentation , i'm just begining in building (not for sale, only for hobby).
I take the passin after buying a uku of Gérard Guash and following his blog.
After make a stewmac concert kit for understand how ta assemble a uku, with the help of Gérard, i make my own plan, bought my wood and tool (part by part... it's a little expensive when we start) ... and i start!
I have also lucky to have cabinet maker at my job with some machine...
I follow some of you, especially for the ressources that you share, it's very usefull, so thanks a lot!
Here you can see the first step: my plan.

Need to be continue shaping, especially about the thickness and the root shape.
I also notice that i had made a lot of mistakes... so it's like a draft. Not easy :D
Thanks for your reading,

Raphaël.

I'm really happy because it's really smooth and clean (not the same result when i built a kit last year ^^ )

Thanks
Nice work. A pretty fretboard
In fact, there are dots on 3 5 7 10 12... And a mistake on 15
I planed to put the 3 dots on the 12 th fret... Not the 15 th .
Yet... Not enough concentrated :(
. Is there reason you have three dots on the 14th fret?

If you don’t mind, I think I'm going to do nearly the same on the uke I'm working on now.

make 3 dots on 15th fret :D ?
If you don’t mind, I think I'm going to do nearly the same on the uke I'm working on now.

Hi every one,
I work on my project, yet i need some advice concerning the back braces.
First of all, i designed my uke with only two braces and the initial thickiness of the back was 1.8 mm.
Unfortunatelly, when i reduced the back, i arrived to 1.65 mm. So i decide to change my plan and use three braces (i splited the second brace in two).
Now i have glue the patch of the join (bookmatched eucalyptus) and... I think it's really more rigid than i expect.
So, what do you think : keep two braces or three ?
Moreover, The back will be radiused and i use a sand template for keep my 15' radius (so all my braces have the radius) . three braces is more easy for a beginner?
Here a picture of my problem :

Thanks for advance.
Raphaël.

You could probably get by with using two braces on the back, but that one brace under the soundhole needs to be moved down south of where the soundhole would be and not across the waist. I would also move that lower brace down too so it is not at the widest part. Basically the braces are supporting the lower bout where the surface area is greater and not bothering to brace the upper bout. Of course you could put in a third brace and some do, but I just use two.

Thanks Sequoia,
I understand :)
Do you think this retake will be ok?

or need to move more lower the braces ?

Thanks,
Raphaël.

Thanks sequoia, i will love it to the middle of the total lenght
:)

Hi,
I made two version
A - with the second brace to the middle

B - With the second brace little more up. I think this release is better :

What do you think ?
