Is this some sort of internet hack type thing? Sounds fishy to have that many “guests.”
FYI - where is says "guests" is literally anyone looking at any page on the UU forum who is not actually logged in with a username and password.
Assuming it as suspicious is a giant leap without foundation.
Right! I need ten characters. Any volunteers?
My bad. I'll delete my post.
??????????
No problem. It was just one of those ideas that popped into my head that I should have given more thought to before posting. I was seeing "goblins."You did nothing wrong! OMG why delete an innocent idea?
Not everybody knows how web sites work "under the hood", and this is fine. We are all here to help and to learn, no?
RafterGirl - please dont feel bad.
As far as guests, I have spoken to several people about UU that have told me they are afraid to register to sites on the internet. They think that if they do they are giving the site permission to see something or do something that they can't define, but are fearful of anyway. Just paranoia, so they satisfy themselves by looking in from the outside. And let's face it, most of the things we discuss on UU are pretty much covered multiple times over. If one has a question about strings, straps, or setups, one would not have to ask it to find the answer. So I think there might be a lot more of those people out there then we think.
And this continues to be a common message when I visit this site

I have tried a number of times to contact the mods but there is no response. Why would they not respond?
Maybe you could take a look "under the hood" here at UU Joe! We don't seem to firing on all cylinders these days!
Maybe because there are fewer active mods than there used to be.
Maybe because some of us have our own s*** to deal with as well as the problems caused by hackers and spammers (which account for a large number of the issues seen).
Maybe because this forum is provided free of charge and run by half a handful of volunteers rather than full-time employees, and those volunteers find some of their time taken up with real world jobs meaning that they struggle to keep up.
Etc etc etc.
We know things are creaking a bit. As some members have guessed, we're looking at the problems. Improvements and changes to the forum are being explored.
As some of the more patient members have observed, a couple of retries or refreshes often gets past the glitches. I've posted in other threads with a list of other measures that may help temporarily. It's very late in the UK so I'm not inclined to hunt that down and repost it now. I'll do it tomorrow.
Shouting with big fonts and capitals really doesn't help anything but your egos.
Have a good night/day (delete according to geographical relevance) and a Happy new year. We apologise for the inconvenience and will do what we can.
