I got my first ukulele - a Fender Rincon - about a week ago. I just noticed that the ukulele doesn't lay flat on the ground and the back is arched in a weird way - was it made like this or is this a problem with the ukulele that warrants returning it?WIN_20190104_14_53_19_Pro.jpgWIN_20190104_14_52_48_Pro.jpg

Nope, that is perfectly fine. My Kanile'a is designed the same way. I read that it has something to do with it not laying flush against your body which effects the sound. The last part may be wrong, but some ukes are made this way.

Yeah, my Martin has a curved back too. Perfectly normal.

I'm not sure about my other ukes though. Now I'm curious.

The photos look normal. Many, but not all, ukuleles are made with compound, convex surfaces on the top and back. If the top and back look pretty much smooth and not wavy, it's probably just fine.

Welcome to UU, by the way!
