Banjo uke tuners

Pic below shows tuners off old Princess banjo uke, which is under rehab. These are pretty bad, IMO, compared to other vintage tuners I've run across, even with washers added. Anyone know what these are? Probably just generics used on cheap instruments. Looking closely at the buttons, I see no seams, so think they may be some type of natural material other than plastic.

For replacements, I'm thinking of using the standard Ping frictions, since the original tuner holes are very small, like an old Martin uke, and I'd prefer not to mod. Headstock depth is 12.3 mm, so pretty sure the Pings will fit.

Also tried a vintage friction tuner from an old 40s Favilla U2, which fit fine, but I don't have a full set of those.
